lokinz: Ok, so i finally got my ethernet going in OS X 10.4.4 and ran the speed test. I finally got my 3.5Mb vs the max 2.5mb i was getting in XP.
It's all very intersting, If I get time i will conduct a proper study of it, will fresh installs and all. But for now OS X on my Toshiba laptop is where I'm staying.

You have Apple OS X 10.4.4 on your Toshiba laptop?
I've never seen this before... :)

I was also thinking that sounds very odd.....
Anyway my speeds seem to have gone beck to normal, on xtra Adventure plan

Download Speed: 3220 kbps (402.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 124 kbps (15.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

Download Speed: 3241 kbps (405.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 133 kbps (16.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

Yup, Runs like a charm, Only problems i had were ethernet but loded the kext form 10.4.3 and that fixed it, and no sound, so i brought one of those usb sound things for like $18 and that fixed that. With Os X now being made for intel macs you can patch the install dvd and run it on pc hardware. I run a dual boot OS X and XP. Check this out for more info.

Pretty much what I have come to expect, on Xtra, 3.5/128 10gig not really much faster nor much cheaper

Hey Aloha, I have deleted your postings about the Mac OSx86 hacking stuff... its just too way off base for this thread, which is currently a relatively clean, usefull on topic comparison of DSL speeds.

If it was a sidenote on a useful post, no problem, but an entire screenful of text at 1280x1024 of OT spread over two posts is too much.

Does anybody know where the claim that Telecoms contention ratio is 148:1 came from? It seems to be quoted everywhere yet Telecom obviously deny this is the case.
