Quidam: The only thing that might challenge it is Gears of War 2.

If GoW2 is anything like GoW, at least on PC anyway, then fallout3 must be pretty bad if it can compete with it. When i gave GoW on PC a go, i got frustrated that even with 3 bursts (i hate fixed burst fire) to the head enemies still dont die, instead spray out gigantic globs of 'blood' while making grunting noises. Even when i got given my 2nd gun it still fired in bursts and still usually took 2 bursts to the head. Gave up and uninstalled it. Sorry to anyone who absolutely loves this game on 360, but the hype machine really let me down on this

Never played oblivion or really many RPG's at all. Will it be grinding and levelling up or just doing lots of missions like in far cry 2, which im told borders on RPG.

My opinion of FC2 should not weigh to heavily on your decision whether to buy it or not. The game does have very high production values, but for me, it just feels like a generic shooter (that could have been written 2-3 years ago) and was a big let-down as I was actually expecting FC2 (ie a continuation of the original game) but this is just a blatent rip-off of the old games name, with no tie-in at all.

My situation/requirements are a little unusual (for a PC gamer) as I demand Gamepad support, and FC2 does have it -but it is poorly done. The tutorial still assumes you are using the keyboard, and even with the gamepad, you still need to use the keyboard, which kind of defeats the purpose. After less than an hour of play, I decided I was not having any fun, and installed Fallout 3 -have not touched FC2 since then.

In my opinion, Crysis is a better game than FC2 -and I don't think that is saying much.

ps. I will say I liked the voice acting in FC2 -I get sick of the larger-than-life american style voice acting we typically get.

OK, well I get that you don't like GOW, but statistically speaking the game was a huge hit (and in my opinion totally upstaged Halo 3 as the defining game on the Xbox 360) so it must have had something going for it. Suggesting that Fallout 3 might be crap because I'm rating it against GOW2 (in terms of the likely popularity of this upcoming game) is a little disingenuous.

They are totally different types of game, and yes, if RPG's aren't your thing, you might not like this either. Having said that, this game has real depth. It is much more than just a pointless grind to build a super-powerful character. It has a deep multi-branching story line that does not force you down any specific moral road. You decide who your character is, and how he/she behaves, and the game lets you do that.

Getting back to GOW, I played the game through several times, completeing it on insane on both the 360 and PC. I found the PC version was fine if you are comfortable with a game-pad. If you are a KB/Mouse player, the game probably sucked, because they made those controls harder (on purpose) in order to better emulate the difficulty level of playing with the gamepad. This did not go down well with the PC crowd, and it demonstrates the challenges of porting a game designed for consoles to the PC.

For me, it was great, and I enjoyed being able to crank up the eye-candy and play the extra levels. I will say the game demands a grunty PC. I also never minded that it took multiple shots to bring the enemy down. It was all about finding cover and then choosing the right moment to strike. I really enjoy this style of play. My understanding is that GOW2 adds more realism to this by enhancing the way the Locusts react to getting hit.

My view is that if you liked GOW, GOW2 is going to be an impressive evolution of the original game -all the previews seem to suggest it will not let the fans of the original down -of which I am one.

ps. GOW online multiplayer sucked, but the co-op was a blast. I'm not sure about this, but I think there is now 4 player co-op possible (though not when playing through the campaign).

Bouight fallout 3 last night and played for about 3-4 hours before my wife kicked me off the TV

So far, awesome. Love the setting and the whole feel of the world. The outdoor areas in partcular look beautiful. I really like the way the VATS combat system works. It makes it feel more like an RPG insofar as your experience actually effects your accuracy etc, but still retains the FPS style if you prefer that way ( It gives you a chance to appreicate the gorgeous combat visuals a bit more too)

Very similar style of game play to Oblivion – which I loved and played to death - but they have definitely improved a few things such as the way you level up, the way you speak to characters, the way you pick locks etc.

So far, I’ve found it to be quite scary as well what with all the mutants and gouls hanging around – maybe a little bit too dark in some places as your flashlight has a really rubbish range

So far, I’ve also found it to be really well balanced in terms of difficulty. As you would expect in a post apocalyptic world, I always seem to be really low on ammo, money, and health, and my weapons in a sorry state of repair.

My character isn’t particularly strong so I often have to make agonising decisions over whether to take a better weapon or armour from a downed enemy or the more valuable nik-naks that you find lying around that seem quite heavy,

Nice review.

I've decided to go all out on the sneak/lockpick abilities of my character.

I love getting the jump in combat and scoring critical hits -like you say, the VAT system makes this a joy to behold.

From watching a character get vaporised to dust, to full-on decapitation -the sword is my favorite melee weapon.

Also, the massive explosions are amazing. The way the screen seems to shake -and if you are using a 360 controller the rumble effect is used briliantly.

Was more of a stab at GoW than fallout 3, which im genuinely interested in. I've never really played many RPG's, and seeing some peoples lives be consumed by things like WoW (not everyone gets addicted, but there are the few) makes me steer clear of mmorpgs. But as i said im interested in fallout 3, not ruling out RPG's completely. I was just interested if i was going to be 'levelling up' by grinding, or following through like a story as you would in a fps game but with some rpg thrown in the mix.

It was the major hype and then disappointment which added to the frustration, kinda like when i first played halo on xbox. Perhaps i'll give it yet another go (tried to play it twice), but i'd want confirmation that the weapon selection will improve within the first hour of gameplay, because the weapons felt dumbed down and stupidly weak, especially after playing games like Crysis and other PC shooters.

I don't mind multiple shots either, until it gets excessive ala MoH Airborne super nazi soldiers, but it was the fact that it didnt feel like it rewarded any good aim at all.

I'll give GoW yet another go, and add it somewhere on my list of games to complete, that is if you can assure me i'm not going to be using a pea shooter for 6 hours

Just found out howto repair stuff..
and also make weapsons..
And founda few really fun weapsons..

Also got my have on some naughty nightware :) ehhe ... the hottnes

To be honest, If I were you, I wouldn't bother with Gears of War (1 or 2) because if you didn't like it the first time, I can't see why you would suddenly start liking it now. I'm certainly not going to give you any guarantees, I'm only speaking my own opinion of the game, which is that I think it is brilliant, and that GOW2 is likely to be even better.

On the other hand, if you haven't played much in the way of RPG's, Fallout 3 is probably a great place to start. If it turns out you don't like it, then it is probably safe to say you simply don't like that whole genre.

So i've started playing, just got out of the vault and straight into megaton. I fail pretty hard, i pickpocketed some guy (spent quite a few skill points on this), but he saw me, then someone saw him chasing me, then i had a whole mob of people after me.
Also i've played for 3hrs+, and only got this far =/
No idea where to go or what to do, Far Cry 2 is probably the least linear game i've played tbh.

You do know there are quests yes ? Just read the quest notes, make sure the quest is active .. and the Big Green arrow thing on your compass points you in the direction of where to go.

You can play the game free form where you don;t do any quests and just go out killing and stealing, but it might not be as much fun after a while.

About the nightware -according to the tape recording from Grady, have you found the person we are supposed to give it to?!?

Also, when I first got hold if it, that guy tried to take it off me, and I seemed to teleport to another location. I came back and took him out with the sniper rifle, but I don't really understand why I teleported like that..

Oh i knew there are quests, i already have one. Only just realised theres a marker on the compass. What do the light markers do? point you to places where you can start em?

So.. its been about 2 weeks or so since the game was released.
What do we all think of Fallout 3??

Here is what i have to say..

I have Fallout3 on the PS3..

Good-
I have spent well over 25 hours playing.
I think its value for money.
Still the funnyest game i have ever played.
Still finding new places and quests..
Still looking for all the books & bubble heads
Been to busy playing fallout3 to play anything else
Still enjoying the game & not sick of it yet.

Bad-
Bugs !! I have encountered 3-4 major bugs so far :( they need to patch quick but its PS3 so not sure if they will/can.
Level 20 cap - Not sure if that is a bad thing.. but only takes 15-20 hours to get to 20.. after then no XP is gained
Sneak is alot harder than Oblivion
Stat points seem to max out at 10 - (Have to comfirm this)
Hacking PC is hard on my brain... lol
Main Story Line - (Short !! and avg ending) I think you could clock game in 3-4 hours
(But please note that thats main story line only..)
After main story line is finished the game ends.. you cant keep playing with that Char..

All said and done.. Its a great game !! and i would still give the PS3 verison 9/10
I think if i have a really fast PC.. and FallOut3 for PC i could give it 10/10
as PC verison will have cool mods soon and more updates/patches.

Yes -brilliant game.

I agree that for people who are very focused (ie follow the main-story line only) the game might end too quickly, but I just don't think that's the way most people would play it.

I also think there is huge replayability in this game, (ie. evil character)

Yer im 15 and I think censorship is pretty pointless to be honoust. Other people have no right to make our decisions for us (e.g. what we can see and do and wear). How can they possibly no what is best. And even if they do, who gets to decide who has the right to make such decisions. And then whoe decides who decides who has the right to..... and so on....

And why would they need to censor a R18 game. I think its sad that things are rated so high. I mean I can not pourchase the game as I am only 15. But being DRM free it would probably be one of the few games I might actually paying money for after trying it for free of the internet(I mean shorley the would not mind trying the game before you buy it, especially since good game makers would have nothing to worry about as everyone would like their game and pay for it). But if i go out and want to buy a game about a crazy drug addict in antarctica, I do not want them to censor everything as it wrecks the ridiculosly silly game I purchased. So I do not see why they should censor games in the first place. And I do not see how they have the right to censor the games. And I do not understand why the game makers comply with these riduculous demmands. I mean the fact that we live in a free market society would have to give them a good chance to appeal such demmands in court.

If people have freedom of speach then doesnt that mean that no one can try and stop people listening. Because to me that seems to go against the whole general philosophy of freedom of speach and democracy. And if they wish to express a theme in content that they release then this has got to be covered under their right for freedom of speach. And making someone censor stuff is saying to them that you can not say/do that.

And I am upset that games and movies are rated so high. This has allso got to impose and restrict peoples freedom of speach. Because if they say that that a certain type of content/idea/theme is innapropriate for a certain audience then that audience can not listen or speak of that content. And so your basicly saying that you can have freedom of speach but you can not talk to these people here.

And all things like censorship do is take away our freedom. Our freedom to chose. Our freedom for access to news. Our freedom to express our views. Our freedom to decide what we think is right and wronge. The freedom to try and convince others of facts via sharing information. But the one thing I have come to realise recently is that I personally do not understand what type of so called "democracy we live in".

I mean it does not seem right to me that other people decide things for us. Helen Clark seemed to be one of those such people who decided things where good for us even if we did not agree. The problem seems to be that democracy is failing. Shure we need regulation but we need the right types or regulation to the right extents. We need regulation to enshure that we are not riped of or exploited and that we are kept safe. But to much and it starts to control what we can do. And that does not seem democratic. Neither does taking large ammounts of our money and spending it on things that we do not want it spent on. Although this is often required as alot of people do not have any understanding of economics.

So yeah im really confused because people keep saying that we live in a democracy. But this democracy does not seem very fair. Im not shure if I even want a democracy. And you here of people killing other people in self defence and going to jail. And i do not understand how our censorship is any difrent or better than chinas. I mean censorship is still censorship. ANd there is probably now such a thing as censoring censorship about censoring censorship so we never know it happends. And that is just the type of thing i expect helen clark would have made a select comittee to decide if a select comittee was needed to have lunch and talk about a select commite to discuss censorship within the next 50 years.

I think its a shame that we have such ridiculous people in this world and that we do not do something to them. But the game looks good.

I feel like the world is full of crazy people. And they sit arround making crazy laws. About crazy things. That are insane. And its so mind boggling. And the fact that so few people controll our laws is just so very dangerous and very bad. I mean who made these things up and why should we listen to them. Doesnt freedom of speach allso go the other way, where you have the choice to listen. I mean I by no way feel like folowing a law just because its a law. If a law told me to kill myself I would tell the law enforcers what i thought of them because I will stand for what I belive in. And shurley we would have been better of to desighn philiosphys rather than laws. And then moddle laws arround the philosphys. That way the philosophys allways stay the same. But as time changes and laws need to be rewritten or created they will allways follow the same guidelines. And that would make it harder for people to invent laws that are silly. I would expect that we would have philosophys like no killing, everyone is allowed to defend themselves even if within reason someone dies in the process, anyone is allowed to say whatever they like and be listened to by anyone who is willing to listen, no one can own other people, etc etc.

But i wish i could buy the game. Even though after trying it out i might decide against it, that is irelevant as I should decide if i can decide if I want to bu the game or not. And I wouldn ot buy a censored version as better versions are available online for free of charge, without drm, even when i do not meet an age requirement, often before they are released in our country, sometimes before they are releassed anywhere and occasionally people even fix some bugs in the game. So hows that for crazy. Looking forward to playing the game although i have a pile that i havent played yet so it might take some time. Hope you people have fun playing it. And hope that those who paid for it got their moneys worth.
