my flatmate pre-ordered it.  I've never played Fallout myself so am keen to see what it's like and give it a go when he's done with it.

I heard the ozzie version was going to be edited because of the drug usage (BS obviosuly).

Anyone know if we are getting the edited ozzie version like we did with GTA4, or the full version?

From what i read --

they edited the whole world release and renamed the drugs..
So they are not called the same as real life..

Funny that.. If you have played GTA4 that talk about real drugs all the time..

Not to mention Bioshock which is a whole game/story based around drug use for mind and body altering effects?!

I'm pretty sick of censorship of games.  You don't get that level of censorship in movies - and games have surpassed movies as a story telling medium for adults in my opinion.  Oh well, one day the censors will wake up.

It’s ridiculous.   I don’t agree with any censorship, but if they are going to do it, they should at least try not to be totally retarded with what they censor.
By editing out the drugs, but not the gruesome murders they are effectively saying that taking drugs is worse than killing somebody.   Same goes for GTA4 to an even greater extent – they edited the prostitution scenes (something which is legal in NZ) for some reason,  but didn’t touch the murders, beatings, drug use, carjacking, speeding, drink driving, drug smuggling, kidnapping, racketeering etc – all of which are illegal.

To be clear – I don’t think they should edit anything, but by only editing the sex part, they are showing how fecked up peoples morals are where legal consensual sex is a worse taboo than all that other stuff.

Its not the NZ reviewers that are making software developers make the changes..
Its the Australian review policy.. Something to do with they don't have an R18 rating..
So they must downgrade all imported games to R16 level or along those lines..

In the case of Fallout 3 - Because Auz complained about it.. the software developers just renamed the drugs..But not just for the Auz release they made the changes world wide.

For GTA4 i was able to buy an Uncut version of the game..
Only thing extra I was able to do was pickup hookers & see the action..
Wasnt anything great anyways :(

So you're saying NZ and AU are treated as one entity by game distributers?  Gutted!

at the rate i'm going through fable, and the rate my flatmate goes through games, i should have a seamless transition from the end of fable to the start of fallout :)

damn these new games for coming out!  i still need to finish bioshock and gears of war before their sequels come out!!
