Hi, I do not have the ability to arrange a cable or cables between the current Sky TV receiver (MySky) to another TV in another room, I think my only option is a AV Extender? Do these work reliable, and do you get much of a quality drop with it? Any recommendations on the good AV Extender?

I know this means I can only watch what is on the receiver.

thanks

Bryan

AV extenders are usually analog 2.4 or 5GHz devices, there is too much wifi in the air for them to give a good picture and they will crap all over some of your wifi channels and your neighbours ones. They are also a standard def compoisite video signal so look crap.

You want to get a digital HDMI extender, there are plenty on aliexpress that will do the job but all the ones that will go between rooms are also 5GHz devices and will compress and stream that to the other end that decompresses it. As they look like a wifi network to other wifi networks, they will coexist fine.

Dont bother with the 60GHz ones if you have a wall in the way, as it will totally block it. They are great quality but only any good for sending from a laptop or console on a table over to a wall mounted TV or similar.

Never over the years found a wireless HDMI extender that wasn't a PITA. If you find something that works well and doesn't drop out or interfere with wifi I'd be interested to hear all about it.

Cable access too hard, or not allowed to make holes?

A cheap android device running kodi with the skygo addon or even a nuc or mini pc running librellec with your skygo account is another option.

I run Librellec on a 12 year old intel nuc from an ewaste pile. Its installled to a 8GB usb flash drive as the internal m.2 was dead. You use the yatse app as the remote for it.

We used an Iogear wireless HDMI extender (TX and RX set) for years to get Sky to a second TV set upstairs. The Sky decoder box was downstairs near the primary TV. The TX had HDMI passthrough for downstairs TV. It worked well and didn't miss a beat. Earlier post.

The model we used no longer exists but this is the latest generation. Amazon sell this and will ship to NZ.

Hi all, I am in a similar boat. Want to get Sky up in my bedroom. However, I am able to allow drilling and wiring. Does anyone know if the Sky techs (who charge $100 these days) will run the rg6 cable through the wall from our roof which has the Sky wire going through or will they just do a garbage job and run it from the outside from the roof to the bedroom?? It would be great if anyone who has it done before could let me know.

I have been using this unit from Jaycar for over a dacade with no issues. The current unit on sale is 5.8GHz but mine will be the original 2.4 unit.

Yes it's only standard definition analogue however the TV in our bedroom is only 32 inch so it's never really been a problem, and the IR remote function has always worked pretty flawlessly. I've thought about upgrading over the years to something like this but for how little we use it these days, I can't justify the cost.

In this house it's only going through a single gib-board wall, however our old 1950's house had cinder block internal walls and it went through two of those (and upstairs) with minimal issue most of the time.
