Greetings All,
not very often that I cannot sort out my problems, but, could some one explain that when I check my connection speed with two test programs I get the following results.

Speedtest
Download Mbps 922.73   Upload Mbps 2.50

nPerf speed test
 Download Mb/s  98.1    UploadMb/s  510.1

I did a POWER off, WAIT a few minutes, Power back on and got 900>/500> as it should be on the first test, but thereafter got the above results

My router is a FritzBox 7490, which auto updates.

Thanks for any help,

Raymond

How are you doing those speedtests, and to where?

Each test uses different methods and locations around the world. Fast.com for example will give different results to speedtest.net. Click the settings or options for both and this will become quite apparent.

Are the tests done over WiFi or LAN connection and to where?

Also the 7490 is getting on the old side for gigabit. Perhaps an upgrade to 7590?

Yes I realise that, will have to talk to 2Degrees, (if I can get through to them)

Ethernet cable direct to modem, to NZ sites

As I said, after a reset speeds were normal for FIRST test, then changed, so, in my experience this indicates a system problem.

Will sit on the phone tomorrow and see what 2Degrees have to say.

Use the speedtest app. Trying to test a gigabit connection with a browser isn't reliable.

Using speedtest from desktop, however after dicussions with 2degrees and them doing som checks they are replacing the 7490 router with a 7590, so hope it sorts the problem

If they let you keep the 7490 then use it as a mesh repeater. I am using 2 X 7490s as repeaters with the 7590 as my main router.

With a relatively modern PC, this is no longer really an issue (provided everything else is ok)

I used to give this advice too - and it's good advice, but it's no longer a definite issue.

I actually still see a noticeable difference between the web and CLI versions.......

Sorry, clearly I didn't see that part of your first post.

That 2mbit upload is clearly indicative of something not right and fortunately you've got something easily reproducible.  With the fault finding I'd be focusing on that.  Have you got another spare router?  Any old router should suffice and with the replacement see if it can sustain 100mbit+ and not suffer that same slow down.
