Sky's original looking Logo has finally been updated, this is what will be on the side of Westpac Stadium in the new year

From their Facebook:

‘As part of presenting a fresh, vibrant face to our brand we're ditching the downward pointing arrow. We’re about growth and there’s a vital energy infecting every corner of Sky. We’re also ditching CAPS – they’re shouty, and we're about listening. You’ll start seeing the new Sky look from early September.’ Steve Bayliss, Chief Marketing Officer

Of all the things they could be spending their time (let alone their money) on, this seems like it should be pretty low on the priority list :)

Yeah nah it was free - they got the local pre-school kids to do it.

LOL, you don't know much about the marketing world do you? That probably cost them $100K. I don't know who's worse in my eyes.. Someone who would charge that kind of money for it, or those who would pay it.

To be fair they claim it was just shy of $880. But the rest was made up of the campaign and costs to switch to it. I imagine similar feat to what these guys have paid

It's still distanc(ing) from Sky UK. But at the same time.. not. Theirs is a different font/italics bit the k and y are still linked the same.

Shouldn't they have changed their name? Like maybe "underground". Assume the satellites have limited life left 😁

It doesn't look as fat as it once was. Maybe they are trimming things down as the business shrinks, and the logo reflects this?

Cost would be huge to get naming rights for the cake tin.

Yeah, I do know. 😁 It’s just that it’s always a cliché to trot out that line “any kid could’ve drawn that” or “I would have done it for them for $100” when an organisation spends megabux on marketing/branding/logo.

Interesting that they have dropped the upward-pointing arrow part of the old logo. Is that because it’s no longer appropriate or correct when their subscriber numbers and profit graphs are pointing downward - and/or because they’re no longer aspirational?

I reckon it should be high on their priority list. Sky has done a pretty good job on doggedly destroying their brand and reputation over recent years. The new CEO is showing some promise in trying to resurrect the company, so I can fully understand why he wants to distance the future Sky from it's past.
