lchiu7:
One thing that really bugs me about NTSC to PAL conversion is the so called PAL speedup effect. This is something we had to put up with before digital but alas it still persists on broadcast TV (thankfully no longer on BluRay).
If you ever manage to compare say The Big Bang Theory on local TV versus a US sourced version, the pitch increase in very noticeable (or is that because I have good pitch?). Sheldon sounds like a chipmunk!
PhantomNVD:riahon:PhantomNVD:riahon:bagheera: does all the content have subtitles for the hard of hearing like netflix?
I asked and was told No. Unfortunately for me and a lot of my friends it means we probably wont take up this offer as good as it is. One thing I like about Netflix is that even the commercial DVD's that didn't have subtitles are subtitled on Netflix.
What's the big hang up on subtitles, just turn up the volume, get an hearing aid induction loop stereo, or better speakers?
WOW!!! I never thought of that, hold on let me try it..............................nope didn't work.
So you're completely deaf then? Guess this product is not (yet) for you. Niche markets are not normally the aim when launching a completely new service (see the Roku and chrome cast comments) so you might get lucky later on, but will have to wait it out I guess.
steve98: Is there going to be an iPhone app?
ptinson: Use the original username and password sent at the beginning of the trial. That should get you to the lightbox main beta site?
nigelj:
There are reasons other than disability to turn on subtitles...
A few out of the hat:
- Accents ("What did that Welsh guy just say?")
- Fast dialogue ("I couldn't make out a word of that!")
- Confusing dialogue ("Did he just say kill or grill?")
- Biggie: Non-native English speakers ("Hey, subtitles help me understand what is said!")
My hearing ain't bad, my headphones etc aren't bad, but that doesn't mean that I don't have to turn on subtitles now and then to check I heard something right.

No smartphone plans for now.
