Postie: OtagoLad has already named the service in a previous post - if you search the forums for "The Uptake of Digital Entertainment" you'll find it.

You can also find it pretty easily by looking up broadcast rights holders for Super 15 and NRL - it's not a big list.

Since I'm newish, can someone please explain why it is against the FUG to name the service? How is this any different to NetFlix?

Netflix is a legal commercial service, many of the gazillion streaming sites aren't legal.

OtagoLad posted this in the thread you mentioned:

My viewing is:

Sky TV - gone after the Cricket World Cup and to be replaced with Sportsnet World and Freeview, unless Sky halve my current price
Hulu+
Netflix USA/UK
BBC iPlayer
ITV
Channel 4
NFL Gamepass
MLB
SlingTV (maybe)
HBO Now (maybe)

Nothing in that list caters for Super 15 and NRL so far as I can see.

As TdGeek already pointed out, many of the streaming sites are not legal, although everything in the list above appears to be.  The idea of sharing Foxtel Play logins is probably also illegal, although IANAL so I can't say for sure.  Hence it's best not discussed here.

Well spotted!

Setanta Sports is available to a surprising list of countries:

If you are outside of specific teritories in Asia, you won't be able to subscribe or view content for Setanta Sports Plus. Setanta Sports Plus Asia is available within the following territories only: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Burma (Myanmar), Cambodia, China (People’s Republic), Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, North Korea, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Taiwan (Republic of China), Thailand, Timor-Leste, Vietnam

It would be interesting to try to find a VPN terminating in North Korea

Guess none of those countries have Sky TV..

Well spotted, thanks.

Q: What is Sportsnet World?
A: Sportsnet World is the only 24/7 premium international sports channel available in Canada. Previously known as Setanta Sports, the channel was rebranded in October 2011. Sportsnet World broadcasts live and delayed matches from top leagues and competitions from around the world with a focus on football, rugby union and cricket.

Q. Can I subscribe to Sportsnet World for online streaming only, without having to buy the channel on television?
A. Absolutely. There are several different packages available if you wish to purchase Sportsnet World NOW only.

Looks good, but there's a couple of problems:

  • Your credit card needs a Canadian Billing Address
  • You have to provide a Canadian phone number

Looks like it could be too much trouble.

No need for sky.

Parents still have it in the lounge, but Sky is the second worst provider I have come across.

 First worst is Sky Pacific.

I have a $40 Android stb imported from China, and with it, I use two apps.

One gives me the entire UK (or damn close to it) Freeview platform, and so have BBC, ITV, and some excellent music channels.

Other app gives me Multichoice's DStv programming.  Most of the good channels stream live so Supersport covers Football, and rugby and M-Net (A turbo charged equivalent of The Box) has excellent content, such as popular US sitcoms, Game of Thrones etc, with minimal ads. This is a legitimate app, so not as easy as just giving a link...

Sometimes the connection splutters. most of the SA channels are close to HD, and are fine mostly, but it's the UK ones that splutters.

This sound like a great solution - can you post a link to your STB please? Also how well are sports like Tennis and Golf covered?

Sort of relevant - watching Indycar the other day and I see sky is now showing their stupid self promotion adds when the American broadcaster does. Previously when the americans went for add breaks we could still watch the race. Has sky got a death wish?
