theoldfarter: I can not find the box in Logitech database. I have been in email contact with them and they say it is not there yet. They said their engineers will get the Hex codes to put in the database. That was 5 odd weeks ago and still nothing. I have emailed Sky and asked for the codes so I can send them to Logitech. Somehow, I have not much confidence that Sky will comply.

Any there other Logitech Harmony Remote users, that have the new Sky Kaon NS1120-500 boxes?

Has anyone tried the remote codes for the MySky units on the new boxes? The remotes are the same so possible they work.

Other than that why not 'learn' the codes from the new remote into the database with the Harmony? No need to wait for them to be made available by another party, just do it yourself! I know that's what I had to do with a few obscure components I had a few years back.

I think, (but not sure), that when you do this the codes then become available to everyone though the Harmony database as well so make sure you get the model and buttons correct. ;)

By the way, the correct model for the NZ MySky HDi/+ units is Pace model TDS850NNZ

I just finished reprograming the Harmony, choosing Pace/Satellite and entering in TDS850NNZ. Updated the Harmony and, using it in Device mode (before adding it into an activity) the new sky box does not respond.
Indeed, when one uses the Sky remote (in the same Device mode), the box will flicker a red led to say it has received the command. Using the TDS850NNZ codes, no flicker. The Sky box does not recognize the codes sent.

There is another Sky box, I wonder if it's codes will work. Looking at Sky's web site to see if they list the model numbers.

This new Sky box may have the exact physical remote as the other boxes, but may use different codes. That is, each model of Sky box, with the same physical remote, has different sets of codes, that won't work on the other models.

Anyone has the model number for the other Sky box?

When you say, as highlighted above, do you mean the codes you 'learned' from the new remote cause the red LED to flicker? Do any of the learned functions work as they should? During the 'learning' process you need to be careful not to hold down the buttons for too long as it may then 'learn' the wrong code. Normal short press should be fine. That is to say your on/off problem could be that it 'learned' a long button press, (which may have been sent as two distinct presses from the original remote), as the power toggle. So now, a single press of the 'power' button on the harmony actually sends two 'power' signals to the box causing it to turn on/off quickly or just not respond.

The other boxes on the Sky website? Not sure what one's you mean, but the Silver MySky use the exact same codes as the MySky HDi/+. Any other decoder shown is probably just one of the 'old' boxes, (of which there were at least half a dozen different kinds) so their codes are unlikely to work.

About the highlighted section: Yes, the RAW code that I taught the Harmony. Can't remember exactly about the other learned RAW codes as it was 5 weeks ago but I think, as I don't use any other buttons on the Harmony to anything other than On/Off, that no other learned commands work. I take onboard your comment about using 'short' button presses. I will try again but it won't be today as my wife has returned from work and is relaxing watching her 'stuff' on the TLC channel (each to their own. lol).

I am puzzled why the Harmony could not control the new box, after learning the codes from the Sky remote in Direct mode. I shall have to go through it again. As you probably know, it is not a short process, when things don't go as expected.

So, I take it by your comment that, discarding the 'old' boxes (14 years old, etc) ( that's what I had... horrible thing!) that, apart from this new Digital box, there are only two other models. They are the Silver MySky and MySky HDi/+. If the codes from the TDS850NNZ do not work, it leaves me wondering if that, even with the same physical remotes, the new boxes have a different set of codes. I will ask Sky if it does. The hard part is reaching someone at Sky that has that knowledge at hand. I will email them, that way I can request that my question go to someone with that knowledge. Bad time of year to get quick replies. lol

So I forced my box to upgrade the other week.

I like the UI, looks great on my LCD tv, but my old 29 inch CRT in the bedroom it looks like poo (will be upgrading to a lcd down there one day)

Yes it is a little less responsive and laggy, but I can live with that till they sort themselves out. Also does not help that my remote is a bit buggered and sometimes when I press buttons it turns off my sky unit, even though I am nowhere near the off button.

I like that there are more options for Ondemand content. But...to download box office movie is 7.99 and I am using my bandwidth to download the movie...surely, they can give us the movies cheaper than going to a dvd store though eh? Especially seeing we also pay a monthly subscription.

Ondemand TV show, I just downloaded the first 4 episodes of Wayward Pines to my HDD...why the expiry date? Surely since I downloaded it to my HDD I can watch it anytime I want, which is the whole purpose of ondemand (watch when you want). Plus again, I used my bandwidth to download. So now I gotta remember to watch these before they expire in feb.

I don't like that there is no button to go back to the TV channel - you have to keep pressing the back button. A one button click to go back to your channel would be awesome.

Time remaining viewing, I don't know why they removed that and now make us do math.

Other than that I am excited to see how they will keep improving Ondemand content. Wonder if it is possible to network two myskys in the future. Sometimes I record a show in my bedroom and think I would like to watch that in the lounge.

I do think their is a lot of room for improvement and for them to think about how people actually want to watch TV these days. We want more content at our fingertips, we don't want to pay heaps and we want to watch when we want to watch (no expiry).

Ideas to think about sky:

Reduce Box office movie price or offer a monthly sub for unlimited sky box office movies per month - something that people would pay and not cost and arm and a leg and it is an option. ie avid movie watchers
If we download content to our HDD, why does it need to expire. Think back to VHS.
More content and shows
Easier button presses
affordability
become a ondemand content leader in NZ and change the whole model of how we watch ondemand content (taking last bullet point into account)
See what your ondemand competitors are doing -> ie Netflix and offer your loyal sky subscribers better deals and content, taking into account affordability

Sky Box Office @ $7.99 does not, to my knowledge, download via the internet. Its the same SBO that uses a partition on the hard drive and Sky has already pushed the content to your box via satellite. So SBO is no different than buying from Apple, Google, Quickflix etc on a Pay-per-view basis - and its not very much cheaper than renting from the video store. The movies available elsewhere (that are free for those with a Sky Movies tier) do download.

Expiry is a funny thing for content. Usually there are rights "windows" for content to cover the rights that the broadcaster has obtained from the distributor. It may be that Sky only has the window up to the expiry date and then must pay more to the distributor to continue to offer it. Its no different than TVNZ OnDemand and 3Now where an episode will expire after ~30 days. The only exception is where the content is created by the broadcaster or the broadcaster has bought the very last window (which is usually non-exclusive and after all other windows have expired).
With VHS (or DVD) you bought the rights to view in perpetuity. Thats similar to buying rather than renting from Apple or Google - and you should check out the prices to buy rather than "rent" a movie. Its not very much cheaper than buying it from the store.

Oh I thought that is why we got the wifi boxes to download content. Why do we need that then if it uses satellite?

We have the new Sky Box (relinquished VF T-Box) with recording and HD ticket turned on. I like it a lot, the UI is clean and dead simple to use. The box is very responsive and picture quality excellent.
A big change from when we were last a Sky customer.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Ok so SBO works same as before, although in the new Ondemand section.

I guess when I downloaded Wayward Pines Tv series then, that would have used the internet.

Just can't wait for more content and for them to really think about how their customers would like to use ondemand content.

yea I have had that too, I have noticed it tends to be at the 2nd to bottom page of stuff recorded

Generally an improvement.

However, it does not allow you to do what seems to be the most obvious thing it would do - download (say) a program on History that was on yesterday but you missed.

Yep - catch up seems the most obvious. Very frustrating. Maybe they think the vast quantity or reruns of the same episode means you'll get a chance to catchup almost immediately.
