insane: The extra torque, no traction control etc will hopefully separate the average drivers from the good ones. It been pretty boring watching some rookie step into an awesome car and suddenly become the next big thing in F1. Hopefully the likes of Button will be back up the top! *Edit* Just saw the qualifying results, looks like I'm going to be disappointed this year again... Ricardo...

Having said that, F1 is all about the car technology/engineering, the drivers while what we support due to the human factor is not the major showcase, or at least isn't supposed to be.

What I didn't realise until this week was how much of the profits go back into the top teams, the bottom teams get almost none of the profits. And then the F1 owners (CVC) take 50% of total profits for themselves.

Traction Control has been out for a few years.

Pity they reduced downforce so much as these 1.6 V6 Turbo cars are 4kph faster at the speed traps, but about 5 secs slower in lap times. I agree the extra torque will bring the cream to the top

I think most team revenue is from points, so the small teams rely in sponsorship and lower spending.

Excuse me ... Quality drivers like button? Who can only drive fast when the car suits him? Only whenthe car suits him. The others either wrestle the car into submission or make the car better over 3 fp sessions

LOL I agree re Jensen. Nice guy, smooth,but not aggressive to use the car. Im not sure Lewis will be helped by the new cars, he's already pretty hard on tyres. The torque at the rear and understeer they are having at the front wont help an over aggressive driver, its about using the car as much as they can, but not over using, and Seb and Fernando I feel are fast enough and smart enough to manage that. Others will no doubt shine as well. The last 10 laps, on old softs, and on a rubbered in track will see some cars slow as they lose grip, and others slow less, as we see in recent years.

Im more interested in seeing how reliable the cars will be. I really don't want Hamilton to win. Really don't like the guy!

Yep. Ricciardo was told (not asked) to lose 3kg. Its all about CofG being as low as possible.

A friend is there, he is picking only 14 cars to finish. Would not surprise me. There were two DNF's in was it FP2? (Gearboxes failures)

I hope DNF's do not become a key part of the title chase

I noted one of the rule changes was that cars have to return to pits under their own power after a race to provide the 1 litre fuel sample. I thought this was always a rule? Does it mean they now DNF if they can't return to the pits? If that's the case put the finish line at the pit entry lol

Yeah exactly - It would also be the complete opposite of what is trying to be achieved.

I thought getting back under power was a rule too. But once or twice last season a driver stopped the car to avoid running out, I assume no fuel means no test means penalty?

AFAIK, if a driver DNF's, this means the car has stopped and cannot be driven back to continue the race, and assistance is not allowed , i.e. pushing it out of gravel.

My interpretation is that this now extends to the post race lap - so effectively after you win you can still lose by having less the 1 litre of fuel in your car. Hate to be the guy that mucks that up.

I thought Adrian Newey said that it was CoG, in one of the articles in the FP's. Certainly power to weight is important, Sutil is a cost to his team for that reason.

Oops if Adrian said it it must be true. But 3kg out of his head? 3kg from his waist and thigh fat surely increases the cog by more head weight percentage? Just guessing I have not made the calculations
