If you pay $100 for the SKY POD, do you own the device? So if I leave SKY TV will I keep the SKY POD or will I have to return it? If I need to return it do I get refunded my $100 back? If you need to return it and don't get the $100 back why should you pay $100?

NO. Quote from Sky in Special Offer.

"#8 We continue to own the Sky Box or Sky Pod and all other equipment we provide you, and you will need to return it to us if you cancel."

these are very good questions for a piece of hardware that is probably only worth about $100 if sold in the retail market.

So in your opinion which is the best way to pay. $200 or $10 monthly?.

Wonder what BS value they put on it if you damage it or its stolen - the old mysky boxes had something crazy like $1200 or so.

I don't know if I said this before - this question came up and I replied but didn't add my comment.

It's a stupid thing to do.

With the MySky box I paid $600 to opt out of monthly hire in about 2008/9. In 2027 when I swapped to Vodafone TV they made me return it. I had thought I purchased it. What I purchased was lifetime rental. I cheerily was going to ask if it meant I could get a skybox back now. Unfortunately no one at Sky still has any clue about tue new box or pod availability. I still paid monthly fees and for 5 multiform fees with the Vodafone TV units to Sky all that time.

Would you care to comment on my original post. Which do you consider the best payment method for the box. $200 which does not include future box upgrades

or $10 monthly which includes upgrades.?

Thats a tricky one AND annoying. The purpose of $200 is to make you a long term customer. Why Sky would cut you off at the knees with the zero upgrades is baffling. They should be cuddling up to you. OTOH and not actually a reason is that Sky boxes don't upgrade like iPhones, but even so. If I was running Sky marketing Id be offering small ongoing discounts and perks based on length of service. Not heaps but incremental.

As above. I can't really comment as I have not looked at the options.

Charging for the boxes is ludicrous.

Charge for the services and either make it a refundable deposit for the box, or don't charge for the box at all.

Hi All,

I think I've read everything in the thread but I can't find a definitive answer to whether the new Pod with the Sky Starter package will include the Freeview channels. If so, what resolution will the streams for TV1, 2 and 3 be like compared to the current Vodafone TV, and terrestrial broadcast?

If Freeview channels are available will the 3 day catch-up work with them?

We mostly watch FTA channels as far as live broadcast goes, so may be better to just buy a Freeview recorder although this does seem a bit like travelling back through time. The TVNZ and TV3 on demand apps are also an option although I believe the video quality is lower than the live streams, and I'm not sure if they have the original audio format or are stereo only?

Any thoughts on this welcome.

Cheers,
Pete.

I agree, if we can only watch content through a specified device while paying a monthly subscription it should be provided free of charge with a refundable deposit.

But then again if Sky brings out a new box, they wouldn't want the old box back

Maybe it goes without saying, since it's always been part of Sky's programming fare?  But everything published so far is strangely silent on this question.

@KaroriPete Yes FTA channels are included with Sky Starter package, I also did a Google search " Sky Starter has 46 channels including all the free-to-air channels "

And to continue adding to the answer, yes the 3 day catchup works with all of the channels. - including the Freeview ones.  (I understand that was one bugbear with VTV and some of the TVNZ programming)
