$15 for something that doesn't work v's $25 for something that does?
To be fair we don't know that yet do we. :D
BraaiGuy:dafman:
We've had a T-Box for just on 6 months. Yes it requires the odd re-boot, and on occasions you might miss a recording, but, in general , it suffices ... and still represents better value than the $25 sky offering. The only possible pro for igloo is the option to pay to view for sport, but, really, all in all, it's a pretty uninspiring offer.
SO how do I get the TYbox for $15 per month? I dont want to switch to telstraclear as my ISP. I am quiet happy with snap. It does not seem possible to get the ebox without a broadband and phone connection.
dafman: We are on the free Tbox offer for 2 years, so even better value when stacked up against sky. On average we need to re-boot the box about once every two weeks - it takes no longer than an average PC boot, so no great shakes. Missing occasional recordings is more annoying, but, to be honest, this would less than one in 20 or so. So, my way of thinking, 19 out of 20 recordings is still way better than 0 out of 20 recordings, which is the default igloo option (:

Yes I will support that comment as Igloo is still vapourware.
I don't agree that 19/20 is better than 0/20 though. I like stuff to either work or not work. I find it very annoying when it 'almost' works.
dafman: Seriously, though, I just can't see this initiative getting critical mass to be successful. My prediction, it doesn't fly, and, will either be revamped or dropped within 24 months.
CYaBro:DonGould:dafman: For all its shortcomings, the T-Box is way better value for money. For $15 a month, you get Freeview, full HD and a PVR. Why would I drop picture quality, give up the ability to record programs, and then stump up an extra $10 a month to boot! Oh, that's right, I get 11 extra crappy channels thrown in. No thanks.

MediaWorks yet to sign on
At an Igloo press conference yesterday, chief executive Chaz Savage said he had a verbal commitment from MediaWorks to provide electronic programming guide (EPG) data for TV3 and Four.
Sky TV subsequently told NBR that if MediaWorks does not ink a deal in time for Igloo’s launch, the new set-top box will have basic “what’s now and what’s next” listings for TV3 and Four.
A time-poor geek is hardly a geek at all
common sense is not very common

Ya I don't know. The price point is very sharp and if people can use this to just by an event I can see it being of interest.
How much it may impact the existing product base would be interesting to know but I'm betting we'll never know that answer.

On the topic of content, I feel some of us are a little unrealistic. Some like sport some dont, you cannot satisfy everyone. If 100 of us listed out our ideal line up, there will probably be 60 versions.

Given how Sky behaved towards Tivo, I would find it absolutely delicious if someone gave Sky a taste of their own medicine by withholding their EPG from Igloo.

Especially if they sate it is because Sky canot provide them with viewing statistics.
