In the UK Sky have launched their new Internet streaming box.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-11328267/Sky-Stream-TV-box-launches-UK-1-day.html

It looks more like the VTV box than the Google TV box they're launching here in NZ

Anyone have any insider or an update on these new products, coming into November you think they may start advising the rollouts.

It all seems to have gone very quiet, especially for Vodafone TV owners. The last communication I got was in September, saying I just need to wait.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think it's starting to look doubtful that they can achieve the end of November date in time for the planned Vodafone TV shutdown.

I wonder if they can extend the deadline again, or if we're just going to lose access to Sky TV streaming at least for a while?

I have rung recently and the staff can only say wait. We will lose all tv service since we don't have smart tvs or set top box. I am wondering if I just forget about Sky get new tvs and digital free to air via a set top box. They will lose 6 multi rooms. Meh.

I got an email from Sky last week saying my Sky Pod order is "under way" and would be couriered sometime in November.

Those of us who use Vodafone TV for Sky (and don’t have any other Vodafone services) haven’t even had the opportunity to order any Sky equipment yet. We’ve been told to sit tight and wait for further information.

It’s a bit disappointing, especially when Sky originally said “The first phase of the Sky Pod roll-out is for customers who currently access Sky via VodafoneTV”, but yet many of us still don’t have access to any replacement.

I'm a bit worried by the "sometime in November" because that's likely to be in the middle of the football World Cup which is the biggest event for me. I'm that person who gets up at all hours every day to watch every game. The concern is either it comes and doesn't work and/or VTV gets shut off before the pod is working or has arrived and I then have to miss half the tournament while they get it sorted. Any other time of the year losing access while things switch over would be annoying but tolerable.

Still havent heard anything since the "Register your interest in Skypod" email

We have Sky TV through Vodafone TV so im guessing this is their allocation plan

- Vodafone customers with Vodafone TV and Sky - 1st as most loyal and they could transfer billing to Sky already

- Vodafone TV users who just added Sky - 2nd as they are loyal but is harder as they now have to create new Sky accounts

- Std Sky users - 3rd as already fully loyal but have boxes that work currently so no massive incentive

My biggest worry as the 2nd group is that sky gets stopped on my box before they have issued the new device and they tell me to use Sky Go in the menatime

Hoping we hear something in the next week otherwise its going to be pushing it.
Once we hit Nov i think couriers and services etc are going to be pushed hard with shipping ramping up so itll be tight.

Haven't Sky already said numerous times that customers with VTV won't be left high and dry? I.E VTV won't be switched off by SKY until all those newer options are available to all?

Would you care to comment on my original post. Which do you consider the best payment method for the box. $200 which does not include future box upgrades

or $10 monthly which includes upgrades.?

Thats a tricky one AND annoying. The purpose of $200 is to make you a long term customer. Why Sky would cut you off at the knees with the zero upgrades is baffling. They should be cuddling up to you. OTOH and not actually a reason is that Sky boxes don't upgrade like iPhones, but even so. If I was running Sky marketing Id be offering small ongoing discounts and perks based on length of service. Not heaps but incremental.

It will be interesting to sit on the fence and wait for say six months or so and see what happens with pricing and offers.

Not really relevant but I remember in the early 90's shelling out $200 odd bucks to get a sky analogue box that had dolby pro logic encoding and in hind sight that was a waste of money!

I think their comment was that services wouldn't be switched off completely but that they wouldn't be supported.... I did take that though as the freeview channels etc would continue... But would be hard for them to continue the Sky channels as that requires billing...and i would think needs to be more of a solid cut off, otherwise they would essentially have to give people free sky as they sorted it out (as they couldn't bill you on new platform until they have you setup)
