I use subtitles alot, even though I can hear it. Helpful for knowing what theyre saying if you missed it or someone is talking in the room while you're trying to watch it

I'm pretty sure that it doesn't make an 'obvious' difference to the majority of people... At least the difference is a lot less than the difference in quality between streaming and bluray - I've certainly never seen a 20% speed up or slow down (50-->60Hz = +20%) on any media regardless of source. I'm not saying there aren't artefacts, but they're certainly not obvious.

( BTW - technically a change from 60Hz to 50Hz would result in a slower apparent speed, not a speed up - unless frames were removed)

Maybe read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telecine to at least get an elementary understanding of the issues involved.

Personally I find them very distracting. As a very avid reader, I can't seem to stop reading them, so end up missing lots of the visual effects, and rehearing the text I just read as it gets spoken always seem somewhat wierd!

Ultimately Telecom must be targeting average Joes not geeks and average Joes won't want to watch on the PC or bother with Airplay.

I, for one, do not want to have to use another box.

I have enough issues connecting the boxes I have to the TV, network, and power etc, and the back of the living room and bedroom TVs already look like the wiring for a phone exchange. Between the blu-ray players, consoles, sky box, VCR (yes, I still have one), WDTV boxes, android box, DVD recorder etc I think it's fair to say I have more than enough boxes, wires and remote controls. Having to use an additional bespoke box for this service, especially if its locked down to do nothing else except this service, would likely be enough for me to pass on it.

My existing boxes (WDTVs, Android) are already sufficient to handle this type of service. Heck, they already have netflix apps preinstalled, and the android box can cope with 4K video. Surely it wouldn't be that hard to just release an app targeting a few of the more common major platforms (eg the WDTV and the PS3) - or at the least Android, which would grab a large slice of the phone/tablet install base as well?

Real keen to understand exactly what kids programming Lightbox will have. If i could access similar content to Nick Jr and Disney Jr then my sky subscription is on very borrowed time

As someone mentioned above, official support of a plug n play type media box would be well received, i dont really want to have to buy an ATV plus tie up an ipad to watch the main tv

Really pleased Lightbox is going to pick up the Outlander TV series from Starz based on Diana Gabaldon's books - great favourites in our house.

The purpose of the SkyNow box is to give non technical people an easy way to get the content on their TV.
In addition to their modified Roku they have apps for iOS, Android, consoles etc.

Whilst you might like the idea of an additional box I think the majority of average users (ie not geekzoners) would.

Not bad at all.
Looking through that list there doesn't seem a lot of 'junk'. It's almost all shows that I, or my wife,(or kids) would watch. Quite a few shows that I've been meaning to watch over the years but never gotten around to e.g, 24. That one show alone should take me a while to get through.

And from this thread, I understand that isn't even the entire lineup - more content to be added by the time it properly launches?

Whilst I won't be ditching netflix just yet, I'll be getting this too as there are some things in there that netflix doesn't seem to have.
(Also, netflix might have more content, but it definitely has loads and loads of junk aka 'long tail' on there making up the numbers)
