PS3 browser doesn't have compatible flash plugin to stream on that.

has worked really well for me so far.  watching on a 55 inch TV, and looks like when we used to have sky.  This could be a winner (at a slightly cheaper price though)

Personally, I don't think the price is that bad. It's designed to maximise revenue off casual subscribers.

What I would like to see (and I suspect this is already in the works) is the development of packages (e.g. RWC, Black Caps etc). I'm not a sky subscriber and have no intention of ever subscribing (again) as I'm picky in which sports I want. So setting that up is revenue from consumers which you wouldn't otherwise have.

@TalkieT: I suspect the freepass is a way of stress testing the platform (especially considering the bledisloe test is on)

Any my updated score for the second half... 6/10... a LOT more breakups in the streaming. Probably one every 20-30 seconds for a second or so.  Picture quality still excellent and AV always synced but the increase in breakups (it didn't look like buffering so I think it's between Sky and Akamai - not Akamai and me) took the shine off the service.

I wouldn't pay for 6/10.

Cheers - N

First half started so well was thinking about buying a second chromecast and then....

D-, turned to custard after the 53rd min, stuttering missing frames, completely missed nonu's first try and the conversion, the bit rate was so slow looked like yellow vs black lego bricks

win 8.1 / firefox 39

Well done AB's though :)

From my perspective it felt at times like lots of micro pauses. This could well be an issue from the older Mac book pro over Hdmi but set to 720p output I don't think I was stressing it too bad.

Personally I'd prefer a dedicated satellite hd option but this did work fairly well. Some major pauses along the way need to be addressed.

Put another way, I could definitely tell it was being streamed. 1080p is worth offering for those with the connection speeds to support it too, given 4k is mentioned on the other companies website

A big thumbs up to Sky for making Fanpass 2.0 available and especially for offering the one week free trial.  Based on this experience, I will be happy to pay $20 for the weeks when epic sporting events are being shown, as they are during this week.

This afternoon I watched the NZ - England netball match in the 3 top resolutions 360p, 540p and 720p.  All worked flawlessly.

During the build up to the Bledisloe Cup test, I noticed that 540p and 720p streams were experiencing some pauses due to buffering.  However, once the match started, all 3 streams again worked flawlessly.

My broadband connection is over 3G wireless in the middle of nowhere, so I don't have an unlimited data plan.  For me the sweet spot in PQ vs. Data Usage worked out to be 540p.  At that resolution, the PQ was plenty good enough yet the data usage was about half that of 720p.

Here are some measurements I made using the DU Meter 'Stopwatch' function over about 100MB of data on each resolution:

  • 360p  903kbps
  • 540p  1.7Mbps
  • 720p  3.1Mbps

Once again, THANK YOU SKY for the opportunity to trial this service.

So I was right last night when I said there was no 4500kbps stream for the sky sport channels, only for the dedicated nrl, f1 and super rugby packages

Ran reliably the whole game for me, although I choose to run at 540p as the leadup had a few stutters which I found annoying. And there was no change to that when I tried 720 for couple of minutes around 60mins in.
(VDSL Christchurch, wired connection to PC, with HDMI output to TV)

Good enough to try again, even thougn it will cost $15 next time.

Not sure what's going on, awful quality through iPad even now watching the Warriors lose again , connected laptop via Ethernet connection to router, still rubbish. Turned off wifi. 3G ran perfectly. What's wrong with my router? We stream 720p Netflix movies without any issues normally

It may not be sky's fault but my night was 2/10
