The remote is Bluetooth only, the box doesn't have IR unfortunately.

The remote is in Bluetooth mode but it does have IR mode as does the new sky box

3 weeks in and I have no real complaints with the box. The 64x FFWD is fine for long periods of time. I miss slow motion though. 4K is lovely on the sports that offer it.

This may help someone with issues....Was moved to a new White Sky Box, no end of problems, so I eventually got a replacement. When installing the new one I found the power supply from my old black sky box had been used with the first White Sky Box.  Installed second White Box with correct power supply and all good for a few days now !   I emailed Sky and got this reply ....You are indeed correct that the power cable from the older Black Sky box is incompatible with the White Sky box, as they have completely different requirements. Reusing that old power supply maybe the root cause of your system's freezing and playback issues and I sincerely apologize that our technician made this oversight during your initial installation.

I see my mums been offered a free upgrade to the “box”.

we tried it a few years back when it first launched, but she couldn’t figure out the remote or menu navigation….so went back to the trusty pace box.

has anything changed or still the same?

(looks like the remote is a bit more functional).

im just wondering how long she can continue with the pace box….. all she does is watch, or record and view from planner.

Some folk swear by the new box, but the reality is that a disproportionate number of issues that are reported, are with it. I think it’s the right direction, but the implementation is still a work in progress.

When my Pace box died a couple of years ago, it was replaced with the Kaon Box. The newer box works in exactly the same way as the Pace (even uses the same Remote), and is slightly more responsive when using the Guide or Planner.

Thanks. Is the kaon dual SAT + Broadband?

sounds like the upgrade would be the newer white box with the white remote.

No the Kaon is just a slightly smaller, slightly faster version of the Pace. No internet capability.

But it works…..

Sky Sport 1 skygo stream was cutting out continually every few minutes. Not just you.

Interesting, I had no issues on the pod watching the UHD rugby, or the F1. Had it on all evening. Do have it connected to ethernet though.

Just cancelled my Sky TV for good. Was using the old Kaon model NS1120 500GB. Apparently they are not needing it back and have advised to recycle it. Obviously, I'd love to use it as a Freeview DVR but I guess it's a long shot. So the question is: does anyone want it? Possible use: for anyone who is wanting to return their white sky box and use the old one back but sky does not have any of those in stock. They could probably reactivate it using the smart card number which is still intact. Or is there any genius out here who could crack it open and flash a custom ROM so that I can use it as a Freeview DVR?

Two things I've leant from dealing with Sky this week;

  1. If you are wanting to go back to (or replace) a black box, they are out of the 1TB Kaon boxes...I had to replace my faulty 14 yo 1TB PACE box this week and had to take a 500GB instead.
  2. Is it their normal practice to get you to return broken PACE boxes or get you to recycle?  I was told by the first cust service rep to recycle the PACE box rather than return it, but then received both the how to return email and a return ticket in the Kaon box package, so I called again and this time was told return in the Kaon cardboard box or be charged.  Of course the PACE box doesn't even come close to fitting in that tiny box LOL.  Has anyone just binned it and not been charged, I was going to watch some recordings before recycling. If they do charge for not returning, is it $100 or $260? Thanks

The 1tb black boxes were long gone in distribution. So if a new customer wanted the old boxes, they only have the option of getting the 500gb model. And just like mine, after cancelling Sky TV they have asked me to send it for recycling in any way. I asked them to give me a writing to state that I will not be charged for not returning it. And it's been a month and I've not been charged thus far

Thanks for that good advice. I've had a live chat session with them, got it in writing that I can recycle or keep it (and a case number.)

Cheers
