pugsy33: Not sure what's going on, awful quality through iPad even now watching the Warriors lose again , connected laptop via Ethernet connection to router, still rubbish. Turned off wifi. 3G ran perfectly. What's wrong with my router? We stream 720p Netflix movies without any issues normally

What sort of connection did you use from your laptop to the display device?

So iPad 2 to Apple tv3 using wifi = crap quality, then tried laptop to TV using VGA cable and Ethernet connection = crap quality
iPad using 3G Vodafone coverage = excellent quality

nate: Seems to be running fine now I'm running it off my laptop lugged into the TV.  Kept lagging while using it in Airplay (off my iPad) on Apple TV.

I had the opposite experience. Couldn't get AirPlay to work in time for the first half so used my laptop connected via hdmi. Picture was mostly unwatchable. Got AirPlay working for second half and had HD picture for first 25 minutes. Then had buffering and picture degradation for the rest of the match.

I had an excellent experience watching the game on my 55" plasma connected to my HTPC via HDMI, over 2 degrees broadband (VDSL) in Hamilton. I had 720p viewing for almost the whole game. There was one brief stutter of a second or two at the start of the first half, and about a ten second pause around the 62 min mark (probably the same time as others have also noted). I've had worse experiences when viewing via satellite due to rain fade.

I suspect my viewing was helped by voy1d's post advising use of my isp's DNS servers rather than unotelly's (trialling earlier in the day under unotelly DNS gave me an experience on par with skyGo from previous weeks, although that's probably not a fair test).

I've now set up some scripts to change my dns servers to isp or unotelly with the click of a button for next time I use FanPass.

I only wish I'd seen the code for the free trail before paying for the experience. Never mind.

I had also seen Voy1d's post warning of the perils of using UnoTelly DNS.  With that in mind, I signed in early this afternoon to make sure everything was sorted in time for the Netball.  Left UnoTelly DNS in place and everything worked flawlessly as I posted above.  Ditto during the Bledisloe match.  If it ain't broke...

Yep, I agree if it ain't broke then leave it alone. My limited test suggested that there was a difference in performance, and it seems plausible. I'll do some more testing to get a fairer idea. However, it didn't seem like a good idea to annoy my better half in the middle of the Bledisloe game just to test if it really does make the picture and sound worse again.

What are other's experience? At the moment I make it 2:1 in favour of local DNS servers over UnoTelly in this setting...

Using a windows 8.1 media center PC HDMI attached to a 65inch Samsung the stream pf the game was overall very good. There was a heart stopping 60 second pause after 16 seconds of game play that had everyone contemplating a run to the neighbors old satellite Sky connection, but people held the faith and after a little buffering it worked well. I would say 90% of the game came in at the highest resolution and overall I would count it as a success for the new media.

I'm wondering if Sky would consider something like a $50 special for the world cup period, I would pay for that.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Oh, and I tried the app on my s4 (5.0.1) earlier in the day, it worked ok, with a little breakup, but it did not have the grunt to reliably screen mirror full screen to the Samsung TV. The dedicated media center PC works much better.

I cancelled my sky sports package last week..i guess in the end i decided not enough content to keep me interested(once the ashes had been won!) I use premierleaguepass now for football which i used last season and now using a 30 day free Samsung trial. However ,was interested in how the fan pass worked quality wise and signed up for the free week (thanks guys) just so i could catch the final ashes test. So far found quality pretty good to be honest streaming from ipad to apple tv with airplay, probably in my case on a par with what my premierleaguepass looks like.
Agree with what others have said about comparison with Skygo...fan pass wins hands down.

Glad I didn't have as many stutters as many of you have described.

I would say the laptop kept the 720p res the whole match, using W7, chrome, Ethernet, and over HDMI it was fantastic compared to other streams I have used in past.

I had maybe 3 glitches in the second half, the longest lasting maybe 5 - 6 seconds.

Apart from those small lock ups it was a pretty good effort last night I thought.
I will be giving them money in the future I think.

How do I cancel my account so I don't get charged the following week? I can't find it anywhere and in faqs it says...

Can I cancel my account?
No you cannot cancel (please see our terms and conditions for details). If you have any enquiry about your purchase or account status please email our customer support team at support@fanpass.co.nz

so if I read this correctly....the only way to cancel is through email?

I think this just answered my question

WEEK PASS (SKY Sport 1-4) - $19.99

The best value package by far! The week pass gives you the freedom to access 7 days of sport with [b]absolutely no commitment [b] beyond those 7 days. That works out to be less than $3 per day.

Surely it will just expire after the day you paid for or the week you pay for.

Yup, as this is for casual access there is no recurring charge (especially considering your don't need to give them any payment details to get the free week).

Based on the experience I had last night I will definitely look to use this for Bathurst. Heard very good things about Sky's coverage, and being able to grab a single day's access is great.
