”It will combine the reliability of satellite TV with the flexibility of internet-delivered on-demand content and streaming apps and create a customised experience to suit customers’ future viewing needs.”

That doesn’t make it sound like live broadcasts can be streamed. Sky on demand content is lower quality then live or recorded live broadcasts. Streaming apps to me is probably referring to likes of Netflix not streaming broadcasts.

Vodafone TV would stream live broadcasts, or play back a few days old content in same quality as broadcast, and allow streams to be recorded in same quality without dish.

Hopefully I’m interpreting it wrong, or Sky upgrades quality of on demand to same as live TV.

Already passed the middle of 2022...

Doesn't sound like interesting device at all.

I don't want to keep using satelite, I have multiple providers offering streaming content already.

Dissapointed but not surprised.

Where's the 4k decoded?

What does "Requires Disk free installation" mean?

The Sky Stream looks like a 'Google Chromecast TV' with a better remote

The chromecast and, I presume custom box, are both Android/Google TV powered and will be capable of 4k decoding within the hardware - that is what is meant.

The banner you are referring to is slightly poorly setup but it is essentially saying that the bigger box (not the chromecast branded by Sky) 'Requires Dish' and that it has 'Free Installation' of said dish and probably box as it will rquire Coax to be pulled through again.

Essentially the Sky Chromecast will be IPTV only and the other one is more akin to the MySkyHD but Android powered and with both DVB-s2 and IPTV.

Interesting to see whether the IPTV app on the chromecast version would be extractable and installable on any other Android or Google TV?

So pay $200 or $10 a month thats fair. But if you want to be able to record 5 shows at once you pay $15 a month for that privilege? How many can you record at once with no extra fee?

If it was extractable and installable, I wouldn't expect it to work as a Sky programme material receiver.

I would expect that the Sky programme streams are encrypted and that decryption requires a key linked in some way to the hardware.
Well, that's what I would do if I was Sky

I'm still not sure why they should be charging $15 a month for the recording function on top of the standard sub... When you are already paying for the box this charge on top is not good value and seems like another cash grab.. unless of course this is how they're paying for the satellite costs with Optus...

Probably none

Without the extra fee, you've got the equivalent of a modern Sky Satellite decoder without the 'MySKY HDi' feature turned on.
The 'MySKY HDi' feature costs $10/month, so the new box gives you 5 instead of 3 simultaneous recording channels, 4k capability and a voice activated(?) remote for an extra $5/month

Oh dear! The box description says "Requires dish", so no streaming only service available for the full Sky package?

So for Vodafone TV customers, that means paying quite a bit more for the same service, or actually less service because there's no 3-day rewind function.

I guess they might give VTV customers free recording for an introductory period, but it's still disappointing, especially when it looks like you also still need a dish to get the recording function.

No it says that it can do satellite, streaming and on demand.

Yes, but at the bottom it also says "requires dish".
