Yes, so this means they will be able to run the Android TV Apps from the Google Play Store.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Plex will run on the Android TV itself but not the Sky device.

Just got an email update

"The closure of VodafoneTV has been extended
We recently let you know VodafoneTV would close on 30 November. The closure date has now been extended to 28 February 2023 so you can continue watching the entertainment you love.
Why?
The new Sky Box and Sky Pod are going to take your Sky experience to a whole new level and we can’t wait to share them with you, but we’re not quite ready yet.
Pre-order opens soon
You’ll be able to pre-order your new Sky Box or Sky Pod online in early December so we’ll be in touch very soon with your special offer.

Pre-ordering ensures that if you choose a new Sky Box our technicians have plenty of time to install a satellite dish and no additional cost (based on a standard installation) and appointments will fill up fast.

So you’re ready to pre-order, we recommend taking a look at the options below to decide what works best for you."

Thanks for pre-ordering your Sky Pod.

The closure of VodafoneTV has been extended

We recently let you know VodafoneTV would close on 30 November. The closure date has now been extended to 28 February 2023 so you can continue watching the entertainment you love.

Our shipping dates have changed

We now expect to ship your new Sky device from late January 2023 for quick and easy self-installation.

Why?

The new Sky Box and Sky Pod are going to take your Sky experience to a whole new level and we can’t wait to share them with you, but we’re not quite ready yet.         Your new Sky TV subscription pricing and special offer will begin once you activate your device. Any one-off fees will also be charged on activation.

We’ll be in touch in the New Year.

Thanks

I'm happy to continue with the VTV box for longer as have really liked it. Also happy for it not to shutdown in the middle of the football World Cup which starts next week as was worried about things not working for days.

Considering these were supposed to be released to Existing customers in at the start of this year, then the middle, then Oct, Then Dec, Now sometime 2023...... Im thinking existing customers shouldn't hold their breath, let alone a new customer!

This was attached to the bottom of the email I received from Sky today about the delay.

“If you paid a one off fee for My Sky or My Sky+, this will continue to apply when you upgrade to the new Sky Box.”

That answers my main concern as I have both a My Sky & a My Sky+ both paid upfront many years ago.

Bit of a mess and still early days. Does anyonne know if the Sky pod can be extended to include an ethernet connection as per the Chromecast of will it only support wifi. I also believe that gone will be the convenience of a single remote supporting free tv channels (1,2,3,4) and sky paid channels. I think you will need to load and excecute the respective apps when trying to access the non sky channels?

SkyPod has an Ethernet interface which is shown in the published image of it. Note: SkyPod is made by Kaon.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

Has that been confirmed somewhere that the free channels won't be available via the pod? I hope they would be as it's supposed to include the same sky package and they are always included with Sky starter.
