Current packages with my Vodafone TV

I want Sky Sport (I must have English Premier League football, Arsenal!)

I would like the Starter & Entertainment packs for old TV series like "The Onedin Line", "chewing-gum for the eyes", etc

Will add additional storage to provide capacity for recording

Choose between:

  1. Sky TV Subscription plus New Sky box set top for $200 from Sky.co.nz
  2. Sky TV Subscription plus a Sky branded Chromecast for $65 from Sky.co.nz
  3. Google TV branded Chromecast with Google TV and SkySportNow.co.nz and some additional storage to provide recording capacity. Dump Sky TV Subscription

As I've already got a Chromecast with Google TV and already have additional storage, just need a decent schedule to record across the many media sources.

Oh dear! The box description says "Requires dish", so no streaming only service available for the full Sky package?

Could you not use the chromecast looking dongle "Sky stream"?

We do not know enough about the services but essentially you need to seperate the two boxes from the actual TV offering.  The simple IPTV box will have all the channels and most likely the 24 hour catch up like SSN how as well as ondemand, but requires a constant internet connection to work.  The fuller box offers both internet based streaming and non-internet so if the internet drops out then you can still watch plus it offers local recording.  We may find that the IPTV version offers the similar option to VTV but for those with not such a great internet connection then DVB-S is often the best approach.

That might be my only option, although then there's no recording ability.

It looks like like there's no way to get the full service (including recording) without getting a dish.

So pay $200 or $10 a month thats fair. But if you want to be able to record 5 shows at once you pay $15 a month for that privilege? How many can you record at once with no extra fee?

Yeah, this could spell the end of my long association with Sky TV. I've been with them since the 1990's.

To put my costs up again, with no real benefit (I don't have a 4K TV, so that doesn't do anything for me) I think I'll stick with Freeview, Apple TV, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, Netflix.

Don't want to pay even more money to them just to be able to record and use the planner etc. It's already a rort, paying for the MySky+ "features" that are built into the box - but to then pay $200 for a box that I presumably don't own, and $15 a month for the privilege of "recording 5 channels at once"...yeah, nah.

Goodbye Sky.

Agree, its an extra $10 p.m. or a one off $200 to be status quo

I assume this pricing is for VTV upgrades, not for existing Sky Satellite customers.

Unless there thinking of charging extra $ to be an early adopter which makes no sense. Reminds me of the $10 'HD ticket' which lived about 5 years longer than it needed to.

I was just having a closer look to see if I could make do with the "Sky Stream" option to replace Vodafone TV, as I won't be getting a dish (which appears to be a requirement for the new sky box even though I only want to use streaming).

The Sky website suggests that pause and rewind are features of the $15-per-month My Sky service (alongside the ability to record). If that means I wouldn't even be able to pause and rewind live TV if using only the streaming option, I'm erring on the side of (reluctantly) giving up Sky altogether.

Unless anyone has seen any more details yet of how these service will actually work, I guess I'll just have to wait until the full launch to see what features they enable on the streaming dongle. However, I presume pausing needs an ability to record, and the streaming dongle doesn't have that capability.

I wonder if the new box would still work if a dish isn't actually connected?

Good thing about VodafoneTV is that you could access free to air channels for free whereas this new Sky Stream device you would have to pay monthly cost to access those free to air channels like VodafoneTV. Is this right?

Where did you see that? That's shows the old Sky box, but it seems to have features from the new service?

Placeholder information, perhaps?

Hi, if you login to your account and look at your current box, ie the place where you can add multiroom or new box, then you will see the above. Note how currently in only relates to the old boxs, which have the green ticks, the newer features currently are not available, ie grey blobs

Ah, that would explain why I can't see that screen. I'm a Sky customer via Vodafone TV, so my account details are only viewable on Vodafone's website and don't have that information.

Why did they list the "sky stream" your favorites all in one place Then put "satellite tv" streaming and on demand. They should of written SKY channel packages. The dongle device doesn't have a tuner for satellite.
