Jizah: I'm guessing we won't be getting any 3D coverage then?

Just received an email from Freeviewshop.co.nz saying there will be a 3D Olympics channel broadcasting from Optus D1.

Here's the text from the email:

We will have nearly 24/7 Coverage of the Olympics on Prime TV and there is also a 3D Olympics channel broadcasting on OPTUS D1 Now!

To receive the 3D channel you must have a Full High Definition Satellite Receiver. For the best possible picture quality, we recommend you choose an Ultraplus HD receiver and you will also need a 3D HDTV:

Doing a scan on 12648MHz V Pol SR:10500 with an HD receiver will find the new channel for you

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere thats just a highlights channel.

Prime HD is looking good.  As with Sky's other HD channels, there isn't any EPG provided, only current and next programmes.  However, it's a simple matter to add a timed recording matching the same programme on the SD channel.

I don't have EPG data from 3pm today onwards on these channels. Anyone else?

Prime is showing EPG data all the way through until 11:25pm on 1st August for me.  Sky Sport 8 is much the same, so I guess that all the other "Olympic Special" channels would be too.

No sign of channel 140 for me for prime in HD, the sports ones are all showing and telling me that I can press blue to subscribe.

edit; never mind, found it was 444 instead.

Boring athlete walk now anyway.

I recorded the entire opening ceremony so we could skip all the ad breaks and most of the national team arrivals.

The file size was the biggest I've ever seen on my recorder: 24GB!!!
But then I suppose the broadcast was over 6 hours long, so I guess not unreasonable for full HD video.

Picture quality for most of the ceremony -- especially the aerial shots -- was absolutely eye-popping.  Best I've seen for a live event by far.  It would be so nice if Prime was always in HD...

While it's nice that Sky have Olympic coverage from Prime TV on iSKY, the video quality is really really bad. :(
