It's just over 2 months until the London Olympics, which Sky are broadcasting in New Zealand.

I'm interested in any information people have about Sky's coverage beyond what we already know (below), particularly around what they will be showing on iSky and whether they'll be offering any subscription specials.

From Sky's website:

SKY Sport subscribers will have access to five purpose-built Olympic channels (SKY Channels 131, 132, 133, 134, 135) offering continuous live sport coverage 24 hours per day, each and every day of the Games. All five channels are simulcast in SD and HD.SKY will also offer in depth and behind-the-scenes interviews with New Zealand athletes, as well as highlights from premier events and medal winning moments.

SKY Sport subscribers will also have the bonus of a 24 hour Olympic News Channel (SKY Channel 139) with the latest from London.

For free-to-air viewers, Prime will offer a level of Olympic coverage around the clock never seen before in New Zealand, with a mix of live action and highlights, along with Prime News: First at 5:30 and the Crowd Goes Wild’s unique spin on all things Olympic.

Additional Olympic Coverage for SKY Sport:

MY SKY HDi and MY SKY+ Subscribers

For SKY Sport MY SKY HDi and MY SKY+ subscribers with an HD access ticket and HD ready television, there will be additional access to three further HD channels (SKY Channels 136, 137, 138) offering live Olympic action.

MY SKY HDi and MY SKY+ subscribers with an HD access ticket and HD ready television will also be able to view Prime’s coverage in HD on SKY Channel 140.

First thing on my mind is where Sky is finding the capacity for all those extra channels (esp HD), as I thought optus D1 was pretty much full, unless they are using transponders on D3?

They'll probably reduce the number pay per view channels. Think there's over 10 of them.

They talking 10 HD channels which would require 2-3 transponders easily, plus at least 1 for all the SD channels

I know I'm probably grasping at straws here, but does anyone know if the Olympics coverage on Prime will be in HD?

Am I reading that right? 23 hours of Olympics coverage on Prime?

Prime is HD on MYSKYHDi/+ only from my understanding of the release, I just hope this time it remains HD after.

Oops, I missed a critical part of my question.
I mean on Freeview UHF?

The release in the OP didn't necessarily imply that HD would be exclusive to Prime on MySky HDi only, even though it's probably safe to say that Prime on Freeview UHF probably won't get HD, even if it is only for the Olympics.

Was just hoping that someone may have known whether or not it may be in HD on Freeview UHF.

Probably a reasonable assumption. No doubt if you want to get HD coverage, being a monopoly they'll want you to pay for the priviledge?

Doubt it.  The release says Prime in HD will be on a different channel (Sky Channel 140) so the existing Prime feed remains the same awful SD.

That the read on it I got too. Prime HD on 140, after the sports channels.

Still umming and arring on wether to get Sport back on (and thereby keep it for the duration of the test rugby season too).

"MY SKY HDi and MY SKY+ subscribers with an HD access ticket and HD ready television will also be able to view Prime?s coverage in HD on SKY Channel 140." and "Prime in HD is available to all MY SKY subscribers. No additional HD ticket is required." aren't strictly contradictory, but it's a very weird way of setting it all out. They have really buried the Prime details there.

I am with Telstra, so I am interested in what of this all comes through there and how well it actually works when it does.

I'm guessing we won't be getting any 3D coverage then?

Just received an email from Freeviewshop.co.nz saying there will be a 3D Olympics channel broadcasting from Optus D1.

Here's the text from the email:

We will have nearly 24/7 Coverage of the Olympics on Prime TV and there is also a 3D Olympics channel broadcasting on OPTUS D1 Now!

To receive the 3D channel you must have a Full High Definition Satellite Receiver. For the best possible picture quality, we recommend you choose an Ultraplus HD receiver and you will also need a 3D HDTV:

Doing a scan on 12648MHz V Pol SR:10500 with an HD receiver will find the new channel for you
