Getting rather off-topic here but living in an ex-retail shop in a dodgy part of town which gets tagged every night doesn't appeal to me ... however, each to their own I guess!

Back on topic regarding Igloo, I cannot fathom why Sky think that a $20 saving per month will entice people to sign up for this crippled service. People seem to fall into either of two camps:

1) Freeview only, either due to lack of cash, or because they hate Sky.

2) Happy to pay Sky a fee starting at $46 per month and working upwards from there depending on what channels they want.

$46 per month is less than what it costs for a landline these days, and way less than what you pay for power each month, so I think it represents reasonable value, especially while the Olympics were on.

The thing is is you are on skys most basic service, they have been giving people free use of old mysky devices anyway, which gives you full tivo like recording capabilities, which is far better than the recording capabilities on the igloo. So It don't see the advantage with igloo at all really.

The olympics is really the best time IMHO to get sky and possibly some rugby games, but I think you have to sign up to a 12 month contract, so you can't pick and chose months. That is possibly the advantage igloo has, but I don't even know if the full number of sports channels would be available to you in that situation.

For many the analogue switch off is still a year away. I really do think a lot of people won't do much about their setup until the day it doesn't work. Could be wrong, I mean the turning left rule change didn't go off with the hiss and a roar I had hoped... no, that should read ...and a roar I had thought it may have.

On the other side of the coin, many people will just go to sky, as frankly it's easier to get up and running for many. Some dude just comes and makes it all work. A family member worked for a while in a government department involved with pursuing fine recovery and was quite impressed at sky's ability to sell their expensive product to those with very little money in the first place.

I think most people have already got a tv that has uhf freeview built in. So all they may need is to get a uhf aerial, which they will have anyway if they have got prime. I think Prime broadcasting the olympics would have meant that many people would have moved to freeview, as you need a uhf aerial anyway to view prime on both analogue and digital.

Even if you are on a 12 month contract for basic sky you can add/delete the optional addons at will.
