sounds a nice idea in principle, but since the content will only be the stuff that is already on iSky now
, and that is largely stuff that was broadcast recently, or requires an expensive outlay per view on top of your existing subscription, then I don't see the value.

On one hand I can pay, say, $65 for a Sky+Mysky subscription, and get access to a very limited range of content that has alreayd been shown on TV anyway, or is ludicrously expensive on a pay per view basis, and ONLY watch it on my PC or the same TV that my Mysky box is connected to anyway*, and only is SD

On the other hand I can sign up to unblock-us and netflix for about $20 per month, get access to a much wider range of content, much of it in HD, and watch it on any screen in my house.

No contest really.

*for me, the 1 screen in my house where I don't see any value for iSky is the TV my MYsky is connected to. If I could access iSky from my other TVs or my ipad then I at least could see some value in that,but, of course, Sky have their multiroom reveues to protect so they would never let that happen!

That's kind of what I am inclining towards to. Probably not until my planned rejig of my whole setup next Christmas when I look at running ethernet to the main viewing locations etc, but the logic you outline is just getting too compelling to ignore.

There is a wealth of old product out there but the movie channels (esp TCM and to a lesser extent MGM) just seem to have a small library which they cycle over, and over, and over again. Netflix appears cheaper, more convenient, and with a much wider range of content. How many time a year do they need to cycle Gone With the Wind and the Wizard of Oz? If Sky doesn't get its act together on the movie package soon, my 10+ year subscription will be past-tense.

What I hope is that they also develop and include the ability to watch tvnz on demand and tv3s on demand service also, this would make it really useful. Also use one of those USB ports and have an optional wifi dongle for those who need one

Now if only those three USB ports and the eSATA port could be of use. Oh and they could drop the 4th tuner from being an infinitely recording 'on demand' and make it available to the user.

And adding to your wish list, that they encode the stored programmes in MP4 and allow you to archive them off via the ethernet port to your NAS drive, thereby freeing up space on your mysky box.

That alone would make me pay the extra to upgrade to MySky and get the HD ticket as well (especially if it included a DLNA server so I could stream to media players in other rooms), as I could simplify my setup and remove the external recorder I currently have to enable this.

Can't see them doing it though ........ so they won't get the money I'm prepared to spend.

sorry, never going to happen. they don;t own the rights to sell the content to you on a permanent basis. only to broadcast it and/or stream it.

I would love to see the mysky as a dlna server in our house. It would drive me back to subscribing to sky movies again and I would be happy to pay the $25 multi room fee and do away with the second decoder. Shame it is never going to happen. Also the mysky can only decode one stream at a time.
