Depends on picture quality for me. If it is the current iSky quality then I won't be going near it.

Much nicer idea building it into the decoder rather than relying on "TV apps".

I wonder how they will support this - traditionally sky techs setup everything for the customer - such as programming the TV/VCR in the bad old days. Internet is a new game for them.
Does this mean that sky techs will be running LAN cables now?
Will this be to the same *cough* high standard as their phone line taps?
Will they sell WiFi dongles on the side like they do RF modulators?

Why Ethernet? This limits location of the MYSKY relative to the router. Why not WI-FI - far more flexible on location?

Because wifi is sloooooow and Ethernet isn't limiting. Just run a cable =)

This will be a great thing! Maybe they can do a massively extended version of box office and have a quickflix type offering - but with actual content.

As the current MySky models already have an Ethernet Port. All that is required is a software update.

Grab a Belkin wifi adaptor that plugs into the ethernet port of the MySky decoder. What's more you can use the rear USB port to power the adaptor.
If / when it happens...

With Isky downloads to the MYSKY the only point would be to download old content to watch later. Streaming is pointless because you have the ability to record/watch from the satellite for current or future content. In the context of downloading why is download speed an issue?

Because iSky provides video on demand using streaming so you won't be downloading anything.

I already get BBC and UK ITV on demand through my VU+ Duo and Vu+ Solo2. Not geolocked either.

This was actually asked about in a relatively recent Sky customer survey (if you joined the panel). They are actually considering having wifi dongle options (or were) as well.

If they support downloading to MySky rather than streaming, then we should get the original bitrate? Stream at lower bitrate if you wish (if away from home).

If the software update supported a wifi dongle, that would be a great solution for tablets/laptops in the home. Dont stream lower bitrate from the iSky website, play it full bit rate from MySky box in your home.

Lastly, add more already played content.

Within a year. That may be 11 months, but I am sure they would want it out there soon as possible. New subscribers, plus "Digital TV, ok, with this, I will just get Sky"

A good start, but its a long way off and i too am conservative in my expectations of its quality. I'm all for useful IPTV services though.

Now if only those three USB ports and the eSATA port could be of use. Oh and they could drop the 4th tuner from being an infinitely recording 'on demand' and make it available to the user.
