PDAMan: I hope this isn't another SoHo or Rialto. I can't afford another Sky channel. This would mean a fight with the kids over movies vs SciFi. If I win, I lose:(

Long overdue though!

This is skys strategy.

Go through the existing channel line up and remove the most popular shows.

Then, package those shows into a new channel and make people pay $10 extra a month.

Huh. I see it has got the Star Trek series in there so looks like Mr Shatner will get to come to NZ to launch it. Must mean SciFi is dead in the water....

If they are playing all of the Star Trek franchises that is a good thing for sci-fi. If they plan on playing Enterprise (series) before I get around to the full set then I might even consider a subscription.

But yes, kind of disappointing it is not Sy-Fi or similar but it could be seen positively as a step in that direction.

Ummm ... while there is the odd thing there I might watch if I was totally bored and channel surfing, I doubt I would pay extra to watch it. Plus, if it is as ad-ridden as many of Sky's other channels I doubt I would watch it even if it didn't cost extra.

I will hang on to Sky for the third series of Game of Thrones, but am contemplating cancelling after that. For the price, there is just too many endless repeats, and too many endlessly repeating promos disrupting viewing.

What sort of dope makes a crack about the name of a tv channel. I'm sure they think it rocks and will give Sky a much-needed shot in the arm, their subscibers will be in ecstasy. Methinks some people have too much time on their hands. This type of acid comment doesn't add to the conversation, just makes a hash of it all. No need to be a downer, horseing around is fine though. Of course, I'd feel a right charlie if this comment was taken as some kind of a cheap shot.

I am more than happy to pay $10 a month for the Soho Channel. Plenty of good quality programming, nicely presented in HD.

I too am happy to pay $10 a month for Soho. But I don't because I can't. I also have to pay the Sky base package of a whole bunch of channels I don't want, plus if I want to time-shift anything, I have to pay extra for a mysky, plus the Sky HD premium, etc etc.
I don't want Sky, I just want to watch one or two programmes that are on Sky. So I either pirate Game of Thrones, go semi-legit and proxy my way into the US, or wait a year or two for it to be available on DVD.

apparantly, according to the press release, it was something everyone said "back in the day" ?
I don't get it, but it seems original and it'll stick :D

Niel: I'd like to think that my very strong feedback in the last survey helped to get this, but will also not pay extra for it as it has always been a shortcoming in the basic line-up. There is nothing to draw Sci-Fi fans to Sky, so let's hope for the best.

It would be the only channel that would have me considering Sky. But probably the only channel I would watch, so a pretty hefty price just for that. Ho hum :-(
