LavenderGurl:JimmyH: As Spyware has said, you need a decent antenna and at that range bunny ears are pretty marginal. A properly installed rooftop antenna is by far your best bet. Having said that, I had some luck with an amplified indoor aerial in a room where it wasn't feasible to connect to the rooftop antenna. I got a (fairly expensive) flat panel unit, properly optimised for UHF (in fact it has no VHF capability at all) and with (from memory) 47db of gain. It worked. Cheaper amplified units I tried, with 20-30db of gain, didn't.

We have a "properly installed rooftop antenna" ... Looks like we just need to make a few tweaks here and there , but we do appreciate you replies and help.
It was implicit in your post that moving the TV and STB around the room made a difference to reception. For a rooftop antenna, it moving equipment around should be irrelevant. It should only have had an impact of the antenna was an indoor one attached to the TV/STB, that moved when the equipment did.
Actually, when asking for help, it would be useful if you could fully describe what your setup actually is in the first post. Then we don't all have to play guessing games.
