These guys are unbelievable. I just tried to sign up, all I want is HD sport, and I was prepared to pay $50 a month for that - which I still think is a rip off, but far better than the normal pricing.
However, whilst they were happy for me to only sign up for one package, i.e. sport, and substitute the MySky HDi decoder instead of a second package (thanks to JarrodM for the tip), they then wanted an extra $10 a month for the HD ticket, plus a $25 'joining fee' for the MySky box.
I questioned the guy why there was a 'joining fee' if I get the MySky box, but not the standard decoder, and he got quite short and said 'All I can tell you is it is a joining fee'. Why the hell is it any different? They still own the decoder in both cases. And installation is no different.
I must admit I had forgotten about the HD ticket - yet another ripoff from Sky, charging for something that should just be included in this day and age.
In the end I told him not to bother, I was really prepared to get back on board at this reduced rate, but as is always the case with Sky they try and clip the ticket at every opportunity which just leaves a sour taste.
It definately should be part and parcel of the HD package - but its just Sky's way of squeezing us by the balls a bit tighter...
Sky UK had a similar system where HD was seen as a 'premium' - however when Richard Branson and Virgin Media started pumping out packages with HD included....this extra soon stopped.
