NonprayingMantis: If the content isn't available in binge-watch 'on-demand' format in HD then I'm not intereted.

If the Zone wants to determine when I watch TV, they can get farked.  I'll stick to Lightbox, Netflix, or TPB

I just record/series link anything I might want to watch on MySky+ , then I can watch it anytime I like. Nobody determines when I watch it but me.

oh really?  When i go on Netflix (or lightbox for that matter) I can watch all of the episodes of the shows I want to watch straight away.

When the Zone launches, sure you will be able to record stuff on your mysky, but you can only record and watch it if and when the Zone determines that it is time to broadcast it.

That's better than having to watch everything live for sure, but it's still a very poor cousin to having everything ondemand where you can watch what you want, when you want..

If the Zone decides to broadcast one episode per week of a show that has 10-12 episodes, you will have to wait 10-12 weeks before you can watch the whole thing.

Personally, I'm not impatient enough to have to watch something there and then. I've got stuff on the MySky+ from at least a year ago that I still haven't got around to watching so on demand stuff doesn't interest me. The only thing I ever watch live is test rugby, everything else is recorded.

I watched the promos for this last night on channel 16...first thought wa, "Geekzone will go off at this news!".

Looks Ok, but  as my household has to be largely kid-friendly these days (due to having said kids), it makes it hard when they throw horror into the mix with Scifi etc.

Can we not just have a good Scifi channel on its own?

Good on you.  Each to your own.   I am obviously not as impatient as you.  I don't mind watching one episode a week.   On Soho many of the shows are screened very close behind the US so you can only watch one episode a week.

But you still don't get the choice of binge watching an entire season (or series) until Sky has broadcast it all. Thats where SVOD services have the upper hand.

Your right. But as I've said, personally on demand services don't interest me. I have that much on my MySky planner from up to a year ago that hasn't been watched yet, and by recording/series linking anything I might want to watch eventually I'll watch it. I have/will never sit down and binge watch anything, I don't have time to sit in front of the TV for more than a couple of hours at a time anyway.

Everyones viewing habits are different, what works for me might not work for others.

Yep. Horses for courses.

We generally only watch a couple of hours per night too. But when we do, we love having the luxury of choosing what we want. Sky & FTA TV don't offer enough content for us to take the approach that works well for us. Using SVOD services, we generally have 2-3 TV shows on the go which we alternate watching. Currently for us that is Friday Night Lights (just started the final season, will miss it once done), Boston Legal, & Suits.

We also are watching a few others via Hulu+, but as they're new shows, we're stuck with the old school model of having to wait a week for each new episode. :-)

Remember that almost all of the series available on Netflix or Lightbox were originally released in episodic format. That is slowly changing with original content such as House of Cards etc. though.

The HD feed is 1440x1080i, on 12267.

The SD feed is 720x576i, on 12394.

I was part of the focus group for this channel about a year ago. SkyTV was pushing very strongly to screen wrestling shows on Zone. The focus group made it very clear this was not wanted. From what I have seen so far, SkyTV may have taken that on board. So just be grateful, it could have been worse!

Sounds like they wanted to emulate SyFy in the US and show non SciFi crap on it.

I see The Zone operating with previews but only in SD. Seems strange to leave it to the last minute to start the HD transmission but I suppose that's possible.

That is true for old episodes but if they are playing key titles as soon as possible to screening in the states (like they quite) then you might get it a day or two earlier on Hulu but you wont be able to binge because it hasn't played yet.

Was HD on my TV the last time I looked. Channel title is The Zone HD.

Because you would have the HD ticket? That would be why.
