Not all splitters work, only certain brands. I have one and it works perfectly. I also use the Hauppauge for HDMI recording and that work brilliantly too, though it was a pain to set up.

No i believe the OP wanted the recordings in something else...there was no mention of another mysky.

can we move content from our MySkyHDi into another format like SDCard or USB?

Use your mobile phone camera / camcorder (SD card) etc, to record the footage and then transfer to SDcard via your PC.

Just like cinema pirates do :)

We don't have mysky and I have never seen the unit, but I assume it has HDMI output. Plug that into the right splitter, plug that into a Hauppauge, hit record and just let everything on the hard drive play. You will have a perfect copy. The alternative is component out, analogue but still close to HD quality.

Unfortunately, MySky will only output SD over component video even if the source material is HD. This is a requirement of the content providers according to the terms of their licence. Given that it's cooking shows the OP is dealing with, lack of HD may not matter too much though.

networkn: All sounds too hard. It's not that critical.

It's not hard. It's literally plug and play. I have friends who do it. Hauppauge capture device and either a cheap HDCP stripper, or an HDMI to component converter (I have seen both used). Job done.

I was going to set something that up myself with a HTPC build, optimised for HD capture, and even purchased most of the bits which were surprisingly cheap. However, I got a new GF, changed to a fairly demanding new job, time evaporated, and I haven't yet found the time or inclination to finish the project. So I still record the limited number of things I want to keep for later viewing (my TV watching time is pretty minimal now as well) in glorious SD using a DVD recorder.

You can not currently transfer from one mysky to another mysky, also you are not able to take content off of a mysky as a file in any source currently either.

Using your own PVR is the only option, after that your options are as the others have stated.

(b) sell, lease, dispose of, lend or otherwise part with possession of, or modify in any way, the Equipment;
(c) use the Equipment for any purpose other than viewing the Selected Service, or using any other programming, products or services selected in accordance with clause 5, inside the HOME in accordance with this contract;
(d) deface, obliterate or remove any label or mark which identifies our ownership of the Equipment; or
(e) do any other act which may adversely affect or prejudice our ownership of the Equipment.

I don’t know if MySky actually encrypts its content or not. Normally it wouldn’t be necessary because the drive cannot be read by ordinary methods anyway. What I do know is that I once pulled the content off a Panasonic DVR and this wouldn’t be much different.

What I did was remove the drive and connect it to my computer. If I remember correctly, it was an ordinary old-fashioned IDE drive. The drive could not be mounted in Windows, which was to be expected, but using a hex editor (Winhex) I was able to read the data directly off it and write that out to a USB drive. It was about 80 gigabytes and took up most of an afternoon. Cloning might be easier and faster but this method worked well for me.

Once the data had been copied, I put the drive back and tested the unit. No problems. I then used a neat little utility to peel the data off the USB drive. Each video file starts with a specific header so I just searched for those and re-created the files. Eventually I was able to restore all the drive’s contents as a series of mpeg files that would play normally on any computer.

I can’t say for certain this would work with MySky, but it worked surprisingly well with the Panny. I have heard that some DVRs are booby-trapped, and a drive that has been removed cannot be read again, but I don’t know if that is true and I didn’t encounter it.

I don't see any clause that would apply to removing the lid. Maybe (c) would apply but the end result is so he can view the selected service.

Last time I took a MySky box back, she checked to make sure it still had the anti tamper sticker in place. Not sure what they do if it's been removed.

Unfortunately, MySky will only output SD over component video even if the source material is HD.

Except for the sport channels (last time I checked) - must be some legacy thing with the pubs pumping the signal into component distribution panels.
I used to record 1080i or 720p out of the sky box on my HDPVR via component, but if I went to a FTA HD channel it downscaled to SD (and assume the same for movies)

The cooking show channels would have been in SD, maybe playing back as 720 or 1080 depending on the output setting in sky box.
