Hi There!

Is there a simple way to take recordings from a MySkyHDI and put them on another identical box? Or can we move content from our MySkyHDi into another format like SDCard or USB?

I don't think there's even a complicated way to do this! :)

Cheers,
Joseph

About the closest you could do would be an analog recorder connected to teh myski...unless you wanted to go down the route of getting an hdcp stripper and hdmi based recording device.  Wouldn't be cheap and unsure of the reliability...might be easier to just buy the content you've stored

I use one of these Hauppauge devices:

for recording from MySky HDi. Works great. No issues with reliability. It looks like they are hard to get these days.

Cheers, Matt.

See you can get these as well - think they were designed for recording game coverage maybe.  Unsure if they'd work: http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=852375

From my experience all the Hauppauge products ignore Macrovision and so can record from the MySKY. Don't take this as gospel but my three Hauppauge products in the past have all worked fine.

Cheers, Matt

Its not macrovision you need to ignore, its HDCP you need to have it ignore.

$15 HDMI splitter from ebay/aliexpress will normally sort that out for you, If going the game capture device route, check that it can record 1080i properly. One I tried just merged 2 fields into a frame and recorded 1080p25 which made it look really bad.

All sounds too hard. It's not that critical.

Probably easier to buy/otherwise obtain the content you have stored on there to keep it.

Unfortunately some of it is NZ Cooking shows, but like I said, it's not critical, plenty more food to cook!

Sounds like the content is best deleted unwatched in that case.

It is not HDCP as you use the analog S-Video output from the Mysky. Plug it in. Install the software and press record. No HD from S-Video however it is a lot easier than trying to use HDMI.

I've not looked inside a MySky but there is a hard drive and perhaps it can be cloned.

I think they're encrypted.  I believe mysky only decrypts for watching.

Yep. Correct. Encrypted streams are recorded direct to the hard drive and only decrypted on playing.
