I think they are trolling.

Not trolling been at work.

If I told you I would be out of a job, and besides if we did this to your decoder and it was not setup correctly before we did it you would more than likely loose all ur stuff depending on ur sw version

This is trolling of a specific type.

Saying you can do it, knowing you can't say how. It's just baiting people.

Hey,

So I was installing a TV today and the decoder was updating for ~45 mins, I had to go so I never saw the new firmware but it was definitely doing a big update.

Want to force mine now....

Errors are expected from time to time, it's 1 hell of an update being done at the OS level etc.

Can restart the box and watch tv on old software, until it discovers I'm guessing an update flag being transmitted few mins later and back to stuck update 'process'. I'd understand a failed update but this is weird :( I'm guessing they just gonna swap out the box

If you see it as baiting, thats your opinion and its a free country and I respect it, it was not meant as bait but reading it back I take your point.

It's not a big deal at the end of the day, but it's harder to know you can manually update and not know how. Most of us geeks are early adopters :-)

I presume a bit of googling would probably find the process as it's likely hardware specific rather than sky specific. No need to confirm or deny if you feel you would get in trouble.

At a guess it might be under the hidden setup menu when you're in system settings, the old 0759 then hit select thing

Right, it could be, but I think the thing it's important to stress is the wiping of the HDD if you haven't got specific (unknown) prerequisites met which sounds bad.

It does, I had a look and there's nothing of note in there regarding updating it anyway

At the end of the day, regardless of whether or not you have the fancy new gui you're still left with the same old sh*tty channel lineup and horrible quality anyway
