SKY does not guarantee that the Content will always be available, or error free, or that requests to view Content will always be successful.
SKY reserves the right to withdraw any Content at any time, at SKY's discretion.
You may not view the Content if you are located outside New Zealand.
In addition, you may not be able to access the Content if your network configuration prohibits you from streaming video content (for example, if your firewall or filtering mechanisms prevent access to certain websites or file types).

Well all of that is well and fine, depending on whether it's a paid service and falls short of the CGA or Fair trading act I'd imagine.

Well, especially if you're paying for a service that you might only use when something of serious enough interest is on that you want to burn mobile data with (ie, away from home where you'd otherwise watch it on telly) yet will never work when the rest of the country will also be wanting to watch it

Unless you have it to watch the odd bit of screen and not as above it's never going to work, so get rid of it.

Sky have a monopoly and the only thing you can do is close your account.

You could go to disputes tribunal or call sky and ask for a refund. Either way, you don't really win.

SkyGo is a "free" addon for Sky. Are you confusing it with the pay per view sky services?

I use it at work since we don't have TV and today for example I wanted to watch the Final of the 7's

Its a commercial decision from sky, nothing you do or say is going to change this.

Sky believes some time in the future it will be more effective to stream online but currently they are better off pushing people to satellite

Skygo, neon, fanpass only exist to keep them "in the game" until they pivot from satellite focus to online focus, it also indicates to other providers that they are in the market

Sky Satellite seems to have started leaking users but I would say they are at least a few years away from making the change, they also have a satellite lease that has a couple of years left which I imagine they will try and negotiate down based on the possibility of switching to online streaming.

Would promoting a service which is essentially paid (Because you can't access it without Paying for Sky), then not supplying it in a suitable working order, not make it something a consumer complaint with the fair trading people would garnish some attention?

Given that the online side is not it's core business I doubt you'd get much traction in using the CGA argument or any other about the state of it.

Only real option is to vote with your wallet....which leaves you with geo-unblocking or illegal methods for accessing the same content (or lastly stick with them but go decoder based - I didn't say all my options were practical).

Neon and fanpass should have more of an argument as they're supposedly stand alone.

yes im aware and you've missed the point.

Some people might get sky for the purpose of not just getting more content, but also because they know they'd (usually, so long as it's not a major event) get to watch it from wherever

This why I tend to be somewhat critical of big corporates, and Sky in particular. I believe it is a matter of policy (also with many others) to squeeze hapless customers who have no other choice for all they can get while giving as little as they can get away with in return. This has been my complaint from the beginning. The alternative is to vote with your feet, and where there is no other choice, to get what you want by any means you can. When it cuts into their bottom line, their behaviour will improve. Just like with any other bullies.

I have the sky olympics app on my ipad and iphone, is it just me, or is the pic quality better than the normal skygo rubbish?, would say it looks quite HD like. I especially like the app that you can check any event that is on live, click it and it takes you straight to it. Worked flawlessly yesterday with Tennis and this morning with weightlifting but hiccuped on diving (picture, no sound).

Skygo is a free non charged service if you have sky.

Also you might find the Sky Rio app a bit better if you have issues with skygo

I don't think there is anything particularly nefarious in this particular instance, I think they are just pretty clueless when it comes to online services and are probably guilty of not deploying enough resources to do it properly. I am not saying that all their staff are like this, but they are a traditional media company trying to evolve with leaders who's hearts aren't really "in" it. Having said that, if there was a legal way to penalize them and their board became aware they were running afoul of legislation, I believe they would either withdraw the services or be forced to throw resources to fix the issue.
