Bother - I was going to suggest trying to run fanpass from the mac to the TV and see how that fares.  (I had originally read that as "mac mini")

I'll see if I can get fanpass going on my samsung TV and compare it against the appletv.  I've had much, much, much more success with the appletv than any of the built in apps for "smart" tv's.

Will report back later tonight whether I see any significant difference.

Thanks for the offer. Unfortunately, my wireless in my house is flaky and I have already been down that rabbit warren. The wired

tv was my solution. I can stream from a number of devices to the tv and the quality is worse, I spoke to Fanpass and they suggested hooking

up the imac which is a good test but not my ideal solution. they also suggested an upgrade of the firmware which I will try.

I also, told them that I would cancel my subscription if it did not work out which they were happy to do. I will let th forum know the outcome. cheers

Had a quick look - it did seem like the Samsung app took a lot longer to get to a decent looking stream (compared to the appleTV) - I tried both Sky 1 & 4, neither showed a significant difference in quality aside from the slowness for the TV to get up to quality.

My thought was maybe the computer has some extra power to process the signal quicker, resulting in a better output - but, if it's not good enough, then it's just not good enough.

I've just signed up to Fanpass using Spark's cheaper offer and running it on Apple TV 4K over a cabled network.

App straight away has at least 1 bug: Leave the app to goto normal TV then when I went back it said I needed to buy a pass. Rebooted the Apple TV then it came right.

Biggest thing I've noticed is a "stutter" like its dropping frames or it can't handle a fast moving picture, was watching a Super Rugby replay and really noticed it when the camera was moving fast.

Picture Qual looks fine otherwise
