I've been highly critical of Sky (I think for good reason) for some time now.

I'm not a sports fan, so of no interest to me, but this looks like the first decent new offering from Sky in recent memory.

Keen. Only other thing I would like is some SkyGo On demand stuff. Did enjoy Chernobyl and Hot Zone. Overall price, chromecast option and number of channels all what I was after. Will likely sign up.

PolicyGuy:

djtOtago:Could do with a Pay per view option, for those one off special event sports / games one may want to view.

Taking administrative overheads into account, I can't see how a PPV pass could be a lot less than $20.
And since a single week is $19.99 ...
;-)

Fair point.

Really unclear on how pop-up channels will work moving forward.

It;s a great price point etc, but at only $10 or a so a month less than some of the better deals in the deal thread, not having pop-ups is a oversight if that is the case.

I assume there will be a high volume of pop ups next year for the olympics (which the annual pass will cover the start of

So if you have STB Sky, you get this for free?

This is want I was hoping for - just remains to be seen how the AppleTV fares and how the Ondemand works, hopefully better than “browser only and only 24hours after” than the current fanpass.

Think this is a really good move by Sky and will hopefully be a great improvement over FanPass where the UX wasn't the best.

Wondering if they have made a deal with Bein Sports for the football channel. As Bein lost the Premier League which was on Bein 1 but they also had Bein 2 which had La Liga and Ligue 1 plus other football. Looking at Bein's website, they are no longer offering any streaming subscriptions so I wonder if they are just converting the Bein channels into a Sky football channel and removing the extra cost for Sat subscribers.

If I can watch Barça's league games, I'll be very happy.

If you have STB sky and the sports package you get the new sports channels and access to skygo to watch sports.  Sky Sports Now (SSN) is a replacement to Fanpass.

So no you don't get SSN for free if you are a STB sky customer as you have access to sports via skygo (as long as you have the sports package).

I've bagged Sky in past for out dated overpriced model, but have to say this is pretty good offering and puts them back in the game. Also at reasonable price point i'm willing to shell out for.

Its one thing to keep your customers and keep them happy its another to keep your shareholders happy. I wonder if the balance has tipped to the customer and the financial results will impact shareholder satisfaction.

Martin Stewart would have accepted this job to some degree on his terms. One of those terms was he wanted to be bold and Sky was in a make it or break it situation as far as he was concerned. Shareholders don't have a lot to lose they wouldn't have lost in the longer term anyway. The question is, if there is a big drop in revenue and profits, what's going to give? Sky still need to be profitable in the medium term so either their prices need to increase or their costs decrease.

I am not sure rights, which is the majority of their costs, are going to be less in the long term, esp since they indicated they expect to be bidding to win from here on in.

So, no SSN, which is in HD(?) but Sky Go, which has no castability and is in lower definition? Unless they are revamping SkyGO?

Last night I tried on Skygo Via the web to watch the netball final highlights, and it wouldn't play.

It’s meant to be a mobile solution. Res on tablets and phones is excellent.

While it goes against my past support for Sky, in that profits were $x per subscriber, per month, so little headroom, what I see happening is the educated gamble (and there really isn't a lot of choice) is that every $1 that is lost by people downgrading MySky to OD will be replaced by over $1 as more subscribers join the pool. ARPU will decrease but overall revenue will increase. The ratio of subscriber revenue to rights would also increase

They are spending more on sports by way of more rights (cricket as one example) these sports shows, so also adding value.

My only concern is that MS has just said that whoever outbids Sky will go broke  https://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=12252746

Short term, if Sky improve I get more, I dont save as I have to pay Spark as well, so I might be neutral at the end of the day. Some will save
