@rugrat, I forget sometimes that Spark Sport is still part of Spark overall but will be interesting to see how much the rights costs and subscriber reduction affects their bottom line.. For Sky do they report on total sport subs or just overall?  Either way it will be hard for the sport distributors world wide!

@quickymart turning off channels won't change much I don't think as the satellite is a fixed cost and the majority of costs are in the content.

Hi, agree with above. Just wondering if Sport Distributors have to pay for rights of events that don't happen, i.e will content costs reduce?

I dunno, you would assume that they would have conditions related to performance I suppose!

it's why the NRL is trying to keep going , every week that there are no games, the broadcasters can claim 1 million from the NRL in compensation , soon adds up

only 3-4 clubs make a profit , the rest are bailed out by the NRL . If the NRL has no income who bails out the clubs at the end of the year.

According to TVNZ News, NRL players' salary packages add up to $AU90,000,000 p.a.   Ninety Million Aussie Dollars 😮
That's a lot of money to find when you don't have a product to sell

(This is not including any 'unofficial' paper bags full of $50 notes, or players' girlfriends being paid $100,000 to be apprentice hairdressers of course - hey it's Sydney, remember!)

I don't imagine the SANZAAR unions including the NZRU are much better off

It's going to be difficult for governments everywhere: giving professional athletes thousands & thousands of dollars a month to maintain their lifestyles but giving tourist bus drivers, baristas and airline check-in staff or baggage handlers only a few hundred dollars a week is not a good look.

Heres what I would do.

Sky sports added for FREE on all packages for the next x months

Those with starter+entertainment+sport would get movies added at no cost. Along with the no fee for sports

I might hang on a week. Wonder what else that can put on there? Sports replays are ugh. If they can pop on sports docos that might be fun. Or retian the sports fee but give free access to Movies if you dont have Movies. Have to do something

That might almost pay for one of the lower EPL teams.

35 cents now, any bets on a takeover offer in the coming days/weeks?
