Yeah very frustrating Sky go app isn't available on things like google tv which appears to be taking over a lot of smart tv Os. However as you've all mentioned why would anyone buy their Sky pod if you could just use their app on all of your smart tvs etc.

Plus Sky Sport now is only sport...which I totally understand that's what most of us have sky for now but there's only two apps to control our access on devices.

Moreover it's frustrating you don't get SSN access with your full blown sky account sub. They're just taking the piss now.

I can't figure out what your trying to get at..?

  1. If you had Sky Go then you'd also have to have to be a subscriber with a set top box, you can't get one without the other.

If you had a full sky account you wouldn't need SSN because you'd have Sky Go?

Sorry I wasn't clear of my setup. I have a new sky box but the sat cable is in another room and is a bitch to try and get to my main TV I'd be watching on. So in the meantime I thought I'll just use the SKYGO app on my google tv OS....nope. Not even sideloading supported (only Kodi which is clunky). The point I'm making is even with a full sky sub I don't get access to SSN...SSN is on almost all platforms. SSN appears to be a completely different service which I can't for the life of me fathom why they would take this approach.

I have to stream skygo on my phone and cast it to my tv in the room I want instead of having SKYGO app on my tv...all because SKy appear to want to protect their SKY pod device. There's no reason to have two streaming platforms whatsoever, in fact you'd argue the cost of ownership must be massive compared to running a single streaming app and simply control access to channels via your entitlements. Seems absurd to me.

Its in the name. SkyGo is a service that is provided to Sky subscribers so they can access the content while on the go. TV apps are not provided as you are not supposed to use it in the home but while you are away from the home. If they provided TV apps then people would use it in place of paying for multiroom.

I think this is the main point.   That and credential sharing are the primary reasons they dont offer apps.

How much is multiroom?  Should be relatively cheap in the world of a internet based.

Multiroom is $25. Basically a second Sky start up subscription. And then it’s another $15 per box if want to be able to record on it. So if wish to record it’s $40 a TV.

But for $25 you get a 2nd sky pod for live playback (and on demand) like the capabilties of Sky Go?

Yes. I believe the Sky Pod is $25 a month per multiroom. No other charges for other features on it.

Other then that, it’s either move it to other TV or SkyGo and casting/airplay.

So by your logic apps are for mobility only, except SSN which is on all platforms...and they provide the same service albeit more channels. I'm not following your logic sorry.

I get how skygo would break multi room but SSN does this now anyway.

No SSN is a replacement service for those that only want sport.  Its deliberately priced, and crippled to not undercut the subscribed service.   It serves a different market....ie I want bathurst, I'll get SSN for a week in October.

Correct. SkyGo is for mobility, Sky Sports Now is a replacement service that suits some customers that only want sport. And Sky Sports Now doesn't break multiroom as it only allows one concurrent stream at a time.

Slightly off topic, but Sky Go works with a chromecast right? So if you want Sky say in the bedroom, would you better off to just get a chromecast for a one off cost rather than a monthly multiroom fee? I have the Pod in my lounge and am happy with it. Weighing up whether a chromecast might be worthwhile for the bedroom for this purpose. Don't watch enough TV in bed to warrant the monthly multiroom fee, but a chromecast might be nice to be able to do it occasionally. Bedroom TV is a smart TV with all the other streaming apps already.

Of course, the pod is easy enough to move that I could just take it to the bedroom if I want but chromecast may be a low enough one off fee for something you don't have to move.

If it does work with Chromecast from say a phone or tablet then yes. Worth keeping in mind that subscribers with Sky Go can have two concurrent users of Sky Go too.
