I hope they are not going to proceed with an obsolete codec when they launch as h.265 is well outclassed with others now.
What's better?
I thnik the big question here is what will they charge for the 4K service? They never do anything for free.

My guess is the $10 HD ticket will be back. Just like it was when HD was first an option.

Hi Apsattv. Are you able to view the Sky UHD content or do you just know it's there? Asking for a friend...

Knowing Sky NZ, the bitrates will be nowhere near the 30Mb/s bitrates of live UHD sport on SKY UK (completely different company btw). Also, who is going to "upgrade" to 4k with the current 4k-ready sky box being pure junk?
Good to see SKY exploring 4K however with the SkyPod being launched they should invest 4K into the current channel streams rather than going via satellite, same goes with the SkyBox.

Most of the old shows Sky broadcast were never even made in 4k so...4k will generally be Sports or movie content. Even Foxtel I think only have 3 UHD channels.
Hi Guys,
One thing Sky will have to do before Running 4K Programming is have Subscriber base with the Equipment which is capable of running it.
What Numbers or Percentage of Subscribers have taken up their Offer for their New ShitBox ?. Not Many by the sounds of it.
The Original MySkyHD/HDi Boxes aren't Compatible so would it be of any Point to even start running 4K until there's enough Numbers to utilise it?
And like their existing Services - it will be a Pissed down Sky Version of 4K, much like their Current 1440 x 1080 Resolutions.
Cheers:

To give people a reason to upgrade to their new box, as right now there is not one since its the same 1080i slop on a different box. Most TVs sold now will be 4k except for small ones for spare rooms etc, and to not have a product to deliver it is IMO an embarrassment for them. The fact it took them a decade to buy a single truck is telling.
Any 4k channel could be made available not just to the new decoders but to SKYGO and the Skysports Now service. I think they will build the channel based on a mix of 4k sports content that they have access too to start with.
"Skysport UHD 1" and "Sky Sport UHD Popup"
The test channel is still playing out F1

Huh?? Sky sold their outside broadcast business and trucks to NEP because they couldn't afford them let alone buy new. Upgrade was going to cost NZ$50M. Sky made it a condition of sale that the trucks be updated by a certain date, which I've forgotten, but I think was 2025.
Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.
Without 100 fps and HDR I would not pay an additional peso.
