Apsattv:

Interresting you have 2 cables connected are you running a distribution system like a Hills for example? how many decoders?

Sky Changed my LNBF earlier in the year. I just checked it and mine only has the one side connected.

Nope, I used to have 2 multi rooms, and a main decoder, but now only 1 main decoder and 1 multiroom.

1 cable runs to upstairs MySky Pace decoder, via the roof and there other cable runs downstairs to the new Sky box decoder.

Just an update to this saga.  After my LNB was replaced, I was still getting low signal during the evening from 7pm through to 10pm, between 6.8db - 7.8db

If it dropped below 7.2db I would get picture breakup and no satellite messages.  This has been happening increasingly over the last week. I called Sky and it took 3 goes to get a tech out.

Today I had the actual visit from a Sky tech, after 2 no shows..he checked the signal and of course during the day its 13db on both decoders, so perfect according to him.  Same readings at the dish.

He then adjusted the LNB by shifting it forward in its holder, he stated the previous tech who replaced it positioned it incorrectly.  I was hopeful this would at least provide a better signal at night.

At 9.30pm and signal is 7.0 - 6.8db on both boxes.. sigh..

Will call Sky again and try to get the streaming puck for free, as a compromise until they transition to the new Satellite.

What’s in the direction of the dish to satellite

I.e. any industrial areas, trees etc…

where’s the dish in relation to your mains meter? (Is there a night rate meter operating about the same time as your signal issues)?
anything in your house that operates about the same time as your issues?

Residential Auckland West.

No trees, just house and Sky.

Mains meter is on the other side of the house, no night rate meter.  Nothing correlates to run at the same time as low signal.

See picture

When the Sky techs come they see that it's 13db+ at both Decoders with independent run cables, and at they see the same 13+db at dish and LNB.

So what do they have to do?

Its 6pm and the singal is now 8db, by 8pm it will be 7.2db...  I need a tech to come at this time.

Will I still have this issue when they switch to D3? (the interim satellite)

Not too clear from that image. But almost looks like half the roof could cover it.

Get satfinder (small white satellite icon) and use the camera/AR finder to be sure.

But remember you go from the LNB to the centre of the dish and the same angle out again. Not necessarily inline with the flat face of the dish itself.

That was my initial though too - it looks like the view to the satellite would be borderline blocked by the roof. Combine that with the periodic satellite wobble at the moment and it may be getting shaded in the evening.

What happens to the SNR when viewing the test channel on the other sat? Is that showing the same variation in signal level?

prob won't have time till Friday to do that. I am still calling them tomorrow to book a tech and request a relocation of the dish. Lets see how that request goes.

Exactly the same happening here. Ok in the morning unwatchable in the evening. No show of tech on Tuesday. Was tv1/2 but now HBO suffering. Tried Sky Go app and casting but was buffering. Think I am over Sky

Losing your SKY signal in the evening is a known issue, Your lnbf needs replacing and dish alignment checked.

So a 3rd tech came out during the evening and could see the lower signal, and did an re-alignment on the dish this time.

Seems have fixed it, getting 13db+ during the day and 10-11db and night

Sweet. I was going to ask what is a “good” level as I was going to jump on the roof and give the dish a slight adjustment

Just to follow up - here's the official word. https://freeviewnz.tv/support/technical-help/satellite-reception-issues-only-at-certain-times-of-the-day/

Essentially if you have the problem, it is marginal dish alignment.
