If you want to increase HD uptake Mr Fellet then bring in a HD capable STB as well as MySkyHDi. Some people may be willing to stump up $10/month for the HD ticket but are unwilling to rent or pay $600 for the MySkyHDi PVR.

Ha!  BSkyB is the only paytv company that allows outright purchase of a STB, that I can think of.  And the range is equally as limited.  Everyone else does the rental and only on a monthly rental basis (for ever and ever and ever).

I've never heard an Australian complain about Foxtel - and they really gouge (in comparison).  But I hear plenty of Brits complain about having to pay for the box.....

Not the point I was trying to make.  I don't want to buy anything.  I would like to have access to a Sky HD STB to replace my current SD Sky STB without having to get a second MySkyHDi.  Pace do a HD STB with no recorder.  Plenty of people I have talked to would like access to HD for their flat panel displays but don't want the added expense of MySky.  They seem willing to pay the $10 for the HD ticket.  The $600 I was referring to was the up-front fee rather than the ongoing rental for the MySkyHDi.

on a tangent ...

in regard to lack of 5.1 sound for things like NASCAR, got the usual bog standard answer of something like "we broadcast it how it's provided to us"

don't know why the host broadcaster doesn't send the other two channels

So D3, does that mean the dual throat LNBs will come into operation? And with that a visit from a tech to run a second cable? I better book in now!

So you would prefer something like DirecTV?
Standard package $40/mth
Standard package plus PVR $45/mth
Standard package plus HD $50/mth
Standard package plus HD PVR $55/mth

Compared to Sky's
Standard package $45/mth
Standard package plus PVR $60/mth
Standard package plus HD PVR $70/mth

Or Foxtels
Standard package $40/mth
Standard package plus PVR $50/mth (plus $100 upfront)
Standard package plus HD PVR $65/mth (plus $200 upfront) - both HD packages

How does Sky recoup the cost of replacing your box?  They just wear it and have you pay for the HD content with your ticket?  Given the box is likely to be USD300+ I struggle to see the economics of offering it but I understand your frustration.

It is not a confirmed delivery so we will not advertise it in HD till we know it is in HD.

Those evil b@stards.  This statement is obviously lies as like I stated in my first post I am seeing stuff listed as (HD) when it clearly isn't.  What can we do?  More letters to the CEO to insist they be honest?

Cool.  I better book in for that now too!  So that when it is needed I am not at the end of the queue with no stock available in the country like happened with the MySkyHDi boxes.

Look....plain and simple.

If SkySport 1 & 2 are HD channels and i'm getting SD content on it....it's misleading/deceptive/fraudulent conveyance..
