Anyone else notice that Sky are a bit liberal with what they deem to be HD?  I watched the Warriors vs St George last week and there's no way that game was in HD even though it had the (HD) in the description.  The studio footage of McIvor and co. was HD but the game certainly wasn't.

I also noticed one of the other league games out of Aussie (Gold Coast v Someone) was listed as (HD) when it clearly was not.

I'm sure the Aussie based games are not HD, only Warriors home games here in NZ. I don't take any notice of the on screen guides of what is flagged HD or not in Sports - you can tell when you watch it.

as I understand it, the only games that are generally in HD from Australia is the Monday Night League game, which originates from Fox Sports.

All Warriors home games are in HD though.

If they are advertising it as HD and it is clearly not HD then that would certainly be grounds for a complaint. You cannot advsertise something that is not true - especially since the sharks are charging you a premium for HD content

I am sure there will be fine print in the Skywatch and your customer agreement that will say something like - program details are correct at time of printing / listing. Sometimes things are out of their control and what they receive is not always what they thought either.

Like a few years ago when Sky was taking a cricket match live from either India or Pakistan! Instead of the international feed Sky was given the local domestic satellite feed full of ads and commercial crawlers etc. Every time the bowler ran in to bowl a beer ad crawled across the screen. Sky were quick to apologise on air and explained that they had been given a wrong feed but because of various language problems were having great difficulty contacting and sorting the problem with the host broadcaster. About 40mins into the game Sky finally got the international feed. It was funny to watch but I can imagine how brassed off many Sky subscribers must have been.

Sky charges additional $10 for HD content, costs for My Sky HDi goes up to 25$, though they do not advertise additional costs when making a new sale to old customers.
I was unhappy about it as the reason to go for My Sky HDi is to use HD features and then they make you pay additional service cost for HD over the subscription cost and cost of hardware where they will be having a good margin.
Sky is enjoying monopoly in NZ market and dictating its terms.

Maybe, but HDi has been out 10 months now and the prices are all there if you want to find out, which you should do if getting something new. As in anything in this world, if you don't like like the price don't get it. Get Freeview HD as an alternative if you can receive it. We pay $110 + a month for HDi and MySky multiroom and reckon it's worth every cent.

We can easily afford it so why not, small price for the enjoyment of all the features for us. Face it, it's a monopoly and that's not going to change in a very very long time, especially now Sky has all the Freeview channels. You have to spend your money on something and as the old saying goes - he who dies with the most toys wins. And we've got lots of toys.

Got to agree with you there Clevedon.  $1320 a year isn't too bad when you say it fast.  I am just hopeful of more HD offerings as time goes on (without jacking the price!).  It may be a monopoly but it's not compulsory.

BSkyB now offers 33 HD channels for GBP9.75/mth.  Compare that to its launch in 2006 which had 7 channels (plus HD PPV) for GBP10/mth.

Its the usual trend for the broadcaster to add additional channels on the HD tier for the same price.  To entice that next leg of HD interest.

What I cant understand is why the OnDemand movies (the PPV ones stored on the HDi box) arent in HD.  Why do I want to watch a PPV movie in SD?

I've found with TV3 HD it doesn't look HD, just really clear.
If I watch an HD program they advertise as HD, it looks the same as a non-HD program

After a lot of research and thought, I've come to the conclusion you mustn't have MySky HDi.

We have been fighting with the CEO to get the damn Channel 9 NRL matches in HD for a while without success. Currently this is what they are saying:

Jeremy to me:

As I said below

Channel 9 are filming all games in HD but (like the recent cricket coverage from Australia) are dependant on a single Satellite path that can carry only 1 HD feed or 4 SD Feeds and if there is another need for space on this satellite then the Rugby League will revert back to SD only (which is what happened with the Bush fires in Melbourne as News coverage took a priority over sports coverage).

It is not a confirmed delivery so we will not advertise it in HD till we know it is in HD.

Regards

Jeremy Hill

I do not accept the above. There is alot of false advertising on Sky about the HD content. Currently:

-Channel 9 games from weeks 1-3 all show HD in both sky watch and in the EPG = shown in SD.
-Super 14 games from rounds 1-3 shown in HD in the EPG = shown in SD.
-Anzac Test shown in HD in the EPG and May Sky Watch = shown in SD.

Sky just basically dont give a toss about their customers.

 John Fellet to me

We will lose several millions of dollars on High Definition this year just like we de did when we went from Analogue to Digital. We accept this is the price we have to pay to be in HD. As the High Definition subscriber count increases so will the content. If you want more HD product the most productive strategy would be to add HD customers.

I can't get too annoyed when Sky are hamstrung by by things beyond their control.

HD in Australia is poor, neither Nine or Seven really seem to give a monkeys about proper delivery of HD sport.  Ten are making some sort of effort, doing AFL in HD, and some sports on One 'HD' are in true HD.

But yea, that reply from Sky shows the poor effort Nine are making. Hopefully this will be resolved with the launch of Optus D3 later this year.
