fair point, but really what TVNZ has done is broadened their viewership by allowing it on the sky platform, this should lead to an increase in viewers and possibly in advertising revenue, so it is a sound commercial decision - what is their incentive to have prime on freeview?

TVNZ isnt freeview

bcourtney: The fact is that nobody is getting a raw deal out of this.

Never said anyone was.

:-P

TVNZ could possibly have used the situation with channels that were not available on SKY, to try harder to get SKYs FTA channel on Freeview, which, in my opinion would benefit Freeview.

100% correct.

It would allow people to have a one-box solution for FTA channels, leading to a higher probability that viewers of the popular Prime channel may discover / watch TVNZ owned channels on that platform.

TVNZ isnt freeview

100% correct.

Perhaps with Tivo in the pipeline, TVNZ might be putting more effort into the channels available on this? Perhaps they're looking at a hookup with SKY for running Prime through their Tivo boxes?

by joves, I think you've got it, very insightful dude.

Anyway, enjoyed the debate, time to go!

And prime dragging them away from that entire STB.

Balchy: also i dont think having tvnz6 and 7 on sky is going to be the tipping point in someones decision to get sky, if they want sky they want it for the pay content not the FTA content.

Exactly, we got Sky 12 years so we wouldn't have to watch FTA and haven't watched TVNZ / TV3 for a very long time. Moving TVNZ 6 and 7 onto Sky isn't going to change that. You can polish a turd but at the end of the day - it's still a turd. Just our household opinion though.

The best thing for me, is that with TVNZ 6 coming in at channel 16, everything is pushed down in the epg.

Finally I can see the documentary channels on one page again!

I dont see anything wrong with this, in fact its great news for sky viewers. I dont understand though what all the harping is about?

I already have access to TVNZ 1/2/6/7 via my built in freeview. Now I just get it via satelite and there is no need for me to switch out of sky to watch these channels. And I now benefit with being able to record programs on these channels via mysky. (Still have not found anything worth recording though)

I will be peed off if sky make mention of these new channels in their next price increase letter though. Thats always the case. Last time it was the comedy central channel.
