Mixing 5.1 is no easy job, especially live. I've spoken to the dude at sky who does the majority of the mixing, it's something very new to this country. I don't think there's many people across the world who are good at it.

I imagine SKY are keeping the majority of their free satelite space now for backup incase, god for bid another sateilite falls out of the sky. 2/3 Channels are going to be added for the olympics, that's where sky are putting their resources atm, expect some HD channels after that.

I can appreciate it's not easy and that is why the Tokyo match was so refreshing because there was no PA booming out from the stadium speakers to be picked up by the 'ambience' microphones and drowning out the commentary. My point was aimed more at the mindless pseudo-DJs at NZs rugby stadia who must believe that the spectators have such short attention spans that they need something to fill the void when the oval ball isn't moving. It's all very american, where a 60 minute game of footy takes 3 hours to play.

Dont get me started on Sky...

2 fn NFL games a week out of 10-16, sometimes if your lucky 3, limited replays and last few weeks the Monday game has been taken over by baseball!@!

I dont expect much sympathy as I dont know how many watch NFL, but I hear you over Sky.....

Just looking at Foxtel's listings makes me sick....

Sky have no control of the content shown on ESPN. I have no issues with World Series baseball taking over regular season NFL, it happens. Yesterdays college football getting bumped was just bad luck (and bad weather).

As for the mixing of the 5.1. The other Air NZ Cup and domestic stuff has been fine, just the way we had it set up made the crowd noise overwhelm the commentary totally.

Last weeks league v Australia seemed in HD to me, and was fine (Sky UK do a very good job usually)

I've been very impressed with what One HD have got in Australia, nothing close is on Sky or any other channel here.

im with you on this, thank god for the internet where every nfl game is live, they have 3 other sports channels with nothing on, and its sky that replaces the football with baseball, because ESPN still advertises the football as been on,

Same statement could be made about league, except replace "poms" with "Maori and Islanders" (or the equivalent racial slurs). But that suddenly becomes a racist statement - you know, associating Maori and Islanders with brainless knuckleheads and all. What a strange country we live in..

Incidentally, both statements are wrong anyway.

I got angry with Sky a few years back and emailed the marketing manager who had signed the letter. I got a phonecall from the person within 10 minutes and we had a good discussion about the issue.

So people... get emailing. You pay for the service, if enough people complain enough you will make a change.

IMHO the golf is just dire, I'd rather watch the grass grow, but it is allegedly the best rating sport on Sky.

1) its happened the past 4 weeks so its not one game.
2) we only get 2 out of 12 games, so too cut into those two is a joke.
3) foxtel manage to show 4-5 games a week without cutting into them.
4) the superbowl is 1 game.

Would you settle for 2 games of the NPC (or league)a week? And then be happy when they only show the final 20 mins of each game because of soccer finals that drag on for a month?

once again Sky have no control over ESPN coverage. ESPN only own the rights to two games a week (SNF and MNF). And I still stand by my point about finals over regular season, a perfectly logical programming decision IMO (I like both football and baseball, so am ambivalent)

Sky are cheap, and won't fork out for any more American sport than they have to. I belive the only reason they paid for the HD NFL game from Fox is to showcase HD (as you may recall it was one of the first HD programmes on Sky Sport). Fox Sports buy NHL, more NFL, and more baseball etc etc.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree.

On another point raised in this thread: I call bull__it to the thought that Sky had the chance to buy the NZ v Pakistan series in HD. The host broadcaster is Ten Sports. They don't even have an HD channel. And the footage now is in 4:3. Filmed in high def, yeah right.

I feel very let down with the amount of HD content on Sky Sports 1 and 2. We are made to pay a premium for the HD ticket so all content if possible should be in HD. This does not happen.

Every week Sky show a lot of football games from the english premiership. This is fantastic, but - only about 50% are in HD. Every game is filmed in HD so it is just Sky being tight and not wanting to pay for it. Should they be allowed to do this?

Secondly ESPN - What a joke. The EUFA Champions League is only shown on this channel. This in my opinion is the greatest competion in the world - it beats any world cup and I have to watch it on ESPN. I might as well stream it of a dodgy site on the internet. The clarity is horrible. Its not even SD??? ESPN do offer an HD channel! Why are we made to put up what looks like a low bandwidth internet feed.

I wouldn't say $2.50 a week - a cheap coffee, is a Premium for HD content on all the avaliable Sky and FTA channels is at all over the top. And if you have multiroom you don't even pay the HD ticket. In the end, everyone likes different sports/movies/HD content and a lot of the sports talked about are minority sports for most NZers, we don't have the population base of Aussie, USA or Britain ( thank God ) so can't expect to get their amount of HD content. As long as we get our Rugby fix in HD this household is happy.
