I am fed up with MySky and SkyTV.

Sky are now only showing GOLF in HD and other sport like Cricket are no longer in High Definition.

The upcomming Australia vs West Indies and subsequent Australia vs Pakistan Cricket series from Australia will be in SD unlike last year. Sky basically have told me that they cannnot afford to show NRL, Cricket, Tennis or Soccer in HD so they spend their money on Golf which is "the most viewed sport on Sky".

So MySky seems to be repeated Movies, Channels you can get on Freeview and GOLF in HD and nothing else. Tomorrow Morning the Kiwi's vs France game is available in HD but Sky are choosing to show it on Sky Sport 3 in SD.

I received an email the other day saying this:

SKY currently offers seven High Definition television channels on SKY Digital including SKY Sport 1, SKY Sport 2, SKY Movies and SKY Movies Greats and free-to-air HD channels TV ONE, TV2 and TV3.

There are no plans to add an additional High Definition channel at this time; however High Definition is a feature of our service and therefore we continually review the viewership and the availability of High Definition content for each of SKY’s channels.

Which means that Sky will not be upgrading any more channels in the near future. So all those wanting Discovery HD, Nat GEO HD can keep dreaming. Foxtel have added so many more HD channels to their existing lineup and Sky are doing nothing, instead are looking to increase their profits.

Those who want to vent their frustration can email CEO John Fellet at: jfellet at skytv.co.nz
I am disconnecting my MySky and I give up on Sky and HD.

How many of those would anyone actually watch apart from the Meads Cup, Allblacks? All sport originating in NZ are in HD anyway as it costs Sky nothing in bandwidth.

I am disappointed that Sky wont be showing any Tennis Majors in HD or Cricket from Australia in HD. The Pakistan vs NZ series starting Tuesday is available in HD but Sky are opting to show it in Standard Definition. Sky UK show every tennis whether its a major or not in HD. I think Foxtel do the same. They now have 3 HD Sport Channels + ESPN.

Yeah I agree. Its better not to have My Sky HDi. I had My Sky HDi installed in the first week when it came to NZ. I have just cancelled my My Sky HDi. Why have it when the CEO of Sky TV shows Golf in HD becasue he himself wants to see Golf thus he shows all of Golf in HD even if it is happening taking lace in rural farm land, he will show it in HD. Foxtel will be increasing its number of HD channels from tomorrow while Sky  TV is not going to add and anymore more HD channels for a very long time. Sky TV claims to have 7 HD channels which to some might be more and enough but taking a deeper look into the issue TV 1, TV 2 and TV 3 are not Sky's channels so it should not be counted as their HD channels. Sky Movies 1 and MGM just keeps on repeating movies for months and months thus no use in havng that channel. Then comes Sky Sport 1 and 2 channels which are there for the sake of it. It does not even show sports in HD for what we pay for. Golf is shown in HD is that channel. Every piece of Golf event.

I own a series 6 samsung LCD and do notice the difference between a normal sky decoder, a mysky decoder playing sd content, and a mysky decoder playing hd content.

I would not go back to a normal decoder because even the SD content on the Mysky is far superior in terms of quality than the normal sky decoder,- just look at the picture artifacts around rugby players on a field on a normal decoder compared to an SD picture on MySkyHD.

Also HD is nice but i sit about 4 meters away from my 40inch, so its not that noticeable anyway.

I say bring on more MySky, its great! now a commodity in my house.

The coverage of the All Blacks last night was great and the 5.1 surround sound was excellent - worth the subs for the month alone. We get all the sport in HD we like, so happy in this house.

SKy can only broadcast things in HD if the source they receive is in HD but if they r not choosing to air sport they get in HD in SD they are losers imo

that is crap if Sky are not willing to fork out for HD coverage when it's available.  If Nine are filming the cricket in HD, Sky should jump at it.  Likewise the League.  The only real reason I can see they won't do the league next weekend is that it clashes with the live All Blacks game (HD) and a live EPL game (HD).  It is inexcusable to not put a live event in HD (when available) when it's bumped by a replay of something such as golf (in HD).  Live sport first, then replays.

I must say, i'm not very happy they have decided not to launch any additional channels with the firing up of D3 at 156E.  You'd think they'd jump at it, but no, it seems not.

yes, I agree, too much golf on Sky of late.  Move it across to a golf channel and let the rest of us have the other 3 channels.  Why isn't SS3 in HD yet?  Surely there's demand?  Actually though, i'd rather have ESPN HD first, 4:3 grain-o-vision sucks.

As for TV1, TV2, and TV3 in HD, that's a joke.  Their HD coverage is a joke.  Less than 10% of programming hours (off the top of my head) in HD.

Surely rugby is the most viewed sport on Sky?

I'm really annoyed that none of the cricket from Australia will be in HD.  Especially if Nine are doing all the games in HD this summer, surely they wouldn't take a backwards step, but I wouldn't put it past them.

Interesting you note the Pakistan series will be filmed in HD.  Most stuff out of Asia (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka etc) is in 4:3 horrible and grainy, so that would make a nice change even to be in 16:9 SD.

except that the mixing was awful.  Crowd noise was up too high, and the commentary too low.

We thought it was great, commentary volumn doesn't worry me - half the time their wrong anyway, I can see what is going on. Having the crowd volumn up was great, hearing them enjoying themselves, and waking up those side speakers. Mix was great we reckon.

Got to agree.  I thought the 5.1 was great, and no bloody stadium musak blasting out of the rear speakers every time play stopped.  Just the sound of the Japanese crowd, superb!

What is worse is GOLF took precedence over Rugby League last Sunday (yesterday) when our WORLD CHAMPIONS were playing. Reglardless of whatever you think about League you cannot deny they are WORLD CHAMPIONS and our NATIONAL TEAM. It should take precedence over Golf and EPL. The only event that it  would not take precedence over is perhaps the All Blacks but thats understandable.

Also the Rugby League was replayed at 11 AM on Sky Sport 2. I was keen to see how the HD looked, but to my disappointment Sky had the fake (HD) sign and flashed the MYSKY HDI symbol when it was clearly in SD.
It seems to me unless its Golf it wont be shown in HD.

Cricket from Australia is going to be beamed in 5.1 to the UK this year. We will see it in SD. Pretty much sums things up.

Why not take the time out and write, not e-mail, but write, to Sky, expressing your disappointment. Written letters are not dismissed as readily as e-mail grumblings. It usually takes time for someone to actually respond, and not be fobbed off with some standard e-mail reply template.

That being said, with the comments on the sub-par ( pardon the golf pun) pic quality in respect to the league, etc, I wont  be bothering to upgrade to MySkyHDI anytime soon. No point.

I wonder how many Sky customers are feeling they are being ripped off, but just can't be bothered. Apathy rules. Do they actually know they are getting substandard broadcasts ? Or is it case of "good enough".

It's almost false advertising - esp in respect to fake HD content with the league. Pretty close to being fraudulent.

So if I follow your guys logic - Wimbledon - which was shown by TVNZ this year - should have been in HD - cause Sky had nothing to do with it, and they're the big bad monster. Except it wasn't - wonder if the ratings have something to do with it? Hmmm...

And that awesome cliffhanger ratings puller NZ vs France must have been watched by all of the NZ sporting public in the middle of the night - because it was such a huge event, because our World Champions were playing?

Lets not forget that the game the week before was in HD - maybe because more than 3 people were watching it... Who'd they play - ahh - Aussie - maybe there's something in that... Looked pretty good in HD didn't.

Bet ya all the advertisers were crawling all over it to get product placements into that France game...

And poofball (can't stand it myself) - no-one watches that - except for all the expat pom's and brainless knuckleheads (lots of them I believe) - how dare they put that on in HD instead of the league, hmmm wonder how the rating looked - maybe there might be something called advertising revenue involved after all.

How dare they put golf on in HD - cause there is a conspiracy - its not because its the largest participant sport in the world or anything, or maybe it generates some ratings or anything is it... Maybe all those players (of the said participant sport) buy stuff from advertisers and stuff... and dream of being Michael Campbell or Tiger Woods, or David Smail even...

Maybe Sky just have a grasp on commercial reality - probably built out of losing money in NZ for 15 odd years... Nahh - can't be that... Its a conspithracy... Its fward even...

It does seem a bit strange that the same people continue to bleat about the same NON EVENT, all the while continuing to fork out money for what is very much a "user pays" service. Some of the people who complain don't even subscribe to the service they're complaining about... Where I come from you'd all be known as a bunch of whingers... Maybe some of you do watch Soccer after all... BTW I respectfully respect your right to whinge - some people were born into it...

Anyway - Sky have got beach volleyball on in HD - now thats something worth watchin... ;)
