To be frank (I am normally James) I think it is a bit crap not to show the games in HD.

To be honest I didnt expect Sky would show it in HD as their previous form would indicate otherwise.

Spyware:
mentalinc: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_Cross_Cable

860 gigabit/s at the end of 2008. Southern Cross recently announced a planned upgrade to over 1.2Tbps by end Quarter 1 2010.

Seems link way more than 45Mbps to me.

Even 4 ADSL2+ lines just like spyware's would do it.

Southern Cross cable doesn't actually terminate in Sky's building though does it.

Why not put in a temporary microwave unit..  They do it for OB HD sport..

Sky seem to have some serious issues with uplink capacity for HD content from outside NZ, and they don't seem to be willing to do anything about it (at least publicly). HD isn't going to go away, so how about take a little of the dividend away from their shareholders and sort out some proper fibre uplinks to North America, Asia, and Australia. The lack of this particular transport medium seems to be the root of all the problems Sky currently have in regards to lack of HD content and new channels.

Spyware - are you speculating about lack of bandwidth, or do you acutally have some reliable source for this? (don't need to know where you found out from, but more that it's not just speculation)

I'll be annoyed if there is no HD coverage at all, that's a real step back from the quality that TVNZ gave us for Beijing then. Better be fixed by the time the Comm Games are around later this year.

I'd rather have SD feeds than pay a premium to watch it like they have to do in Australia to be honest.

4 channels have now turned up on 12608H 22500. They are NDS encrypted (as expected), and are 720x576 25fps. Currently showing promo loops, so I can't do any bitrate checks yet.  Channels are named as Sky Sport 4 to Sky Sport 7

It seems no channels have been moved, but rather they've just bunged another 4 channels onto that mux. Would have been nice if they'd temporarily vacated one of the PPV muxes like 12394H and done a proper job.

As with other threads here re sky, everybody who is annoyed by this should email Sky and let them know that we dont think it is good enough.

I've found the new channels during an auto scan, checked the bitrate and they all average 2.2mb with 160k audio at present

there has been a reshuffle in the last day or so

SS4: 12734
SS5: 12608
SS6: 12394
SS7: 12394

I notice there seems to be quite a bit of a shuffle around, between what is on Sky now and what is on Lyngsat.  There only seem to be 12 Box Office channels instead of the usual 14.  All but SS5 are on transponders that share with Box Office Channels.

Can anyone actually view the channels yet? In theory I should be able to see a ski jumping replay on SS4 at the moment, but instead have a subscription message. I subscribe to sport and have hard rebooted the box... are they charging extra or something though I haven't seen bugger all about that?

Thanks, calling sky sorted it - apparently an issue for some people with very long running accounts.

Come on Sky/Prime... you could at least show full uninterrupted coverage of the opening ceremony. No less than 10 minutes in they show ads???? Pathetic.

And now we wait for people to respond with some variation of "Why don't you just pay for Sky?".
The Olympics are supposed to be broadcast on a free-to-air channel are they not?
I don't remember TVNZ cutting the superb HD coverage of the Summer opening ceremony with ads.

Ok then - "Why don't you just pay for Sky?" :)

You've got a pretty short memory if you don't remember TVNZ's ads.  It was full of them... That was back in the days (or should I say few weeks) they used to broadcast Dolby Digital as well, and had some stuff on in HD...

Spyware - Bitrate is circa 5-6MB (720x576 16:9, Audio 160k MPEG).

To be quite honest, the picture quality of the opening ceremony was surprisingly good for Sky.
