I only needed to reset the box once.

I see a few other people have mentioned it on Twitter, to which Sky responded by putting up a link on how to perform a reset:

A bit of a delayed reaction, but better late than never lol

Bussani: I'm glad I'm not the only person with the problem. I've seen some people say that your recordings get deleted when you do this reset, though. Does anyone know if that's true?

No, resetting the box (soft with the red button or hard by pulling the power) shouldn't do anything to recordings unless they were corrupted to the point that they couldn't be played anyway.

There's a background process on the box that manages series links and looks for upcoming recordings. It can get hung up by bad data from the headend, which might have come from a failover between servers. It's unlikely to be related to the recent software update per se. Restarting the decoder software restarts the process and lets it pick up the upcoming recordings.

You shouldn't have to restart multiple times, but it may take a while for recordings to appear as the series link data is cycled out over time, and isn't just a linear list, as links for future episodes are clustered around the schedule time for previous episodes, for example.

Ah, thank you! So even turning off the power should do the same job? With the amount of power cuts I get, it would have got done for me soon anyway, then.

Yes - so long as the box reboots (hard or soft) the process will restart. The danger at the moment is that people are rebooking recordings and links without rebooting, so the rebooking will record, but the one after will fail.

I have to admit, I rebooked a bunch of mine already. I guess I'll have to rebook them again at least once? Eh, I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks for the help.

No problems. I understand that SKY are planning to push out a reboot command to all MySKY HDis over the next hour so everyone's decoder should come right after that. (There is wall-to-wall Sports events overnight so 2a.m. reboots are an unattractive option). The reboot should take not much more than a minute and hopefully cause no significant disruption.

Mine just did it right this second. Thanks, SKY!

Its funny that this topic should appear as I resolved last night to call SkyTV today to complain.  Seems no need now.

Not speaking for SKY... but they would only have heard of the issue on Monday morning, about the time this thread started. It's taken them 2-3 days to sort out what might have happened and to come up with the best mitigation, and 1-2 days to get that mitigation (the reboot) authorised.

The interesting part for me is that this thread, while commenting on SKY and its response, is also feeding into SKY's response as well as helping it, in the sense that GZers suggested solutions and distributed advice to reboot to fix it. I guess that's the way we work on the intertubes now...

Yep, mine too.  I was watching Sky at the exact time the reboot occurred (Just after 14:20 on 22nd) and wondered what was going on.

Mine seems to be series linking just fine now, even for the shows I re-added manually when it wasn't working.

I notice that record program/series does not seem to work on the same channel.  That is to say if I am watching the history channel, none of the little messages 'press the green button to record program/series' show up for programs advertised as forthcoming on the history channel.  Maybe this feature has yet to come.

The feature only works on certain channels at the moment. Did it work on the History Channel before?

No.  But it also doesn't appear to work on any other channel either.
