keeprunning: you pay nearly 100 a month or more just to see repeats.

I pay less than that for more than repeats, so not sure what you are on about.
Very happy with sky tv.

wreck90: if sky offered a package for just sports for $20 a month they would go out of business.

Sports is the only real reason to get sky. They proceed to rip you off with the other channels you don't want.

Their biggest ripoff this year was putting the Rugby 7s  overseas games only on the Rugby Ch.  If you had the sports only package you were screwed....

davidcole: What about the fact that TVNZ is selling channels to Sky TV - making it almost compulsory in this country?

Why exactly does having TVNZ Heartland on Sky mean you are compelled to subscribe?

TVNZ saw a chance to make a buck by selling rights to re-run its old back catalog - money for jam for them, but not exactly the end of the world for non-subscribers. It's entertainment, not something you starve and die if you don't have. If you don't like it, or think it doesn't represent value for money, simply don't buy it. It's only a TV channel after all!

I personally think this tread should be locked it seems to be one person's point of view on a digital satellite tv service. If a customer does not like sky well they have the right to cancel there service and get free to air or watch tv on the internet it's as simple as that.

We found it hard justifying having sky after a while it was costing us money and we would rather keep the internet on then having sky. So we got freeview and we got a portable satellite dish so now we own all our own equipment it just depens on the person as to what you do.

Actually the OP was banned, after we looked at all the pointless and stupid discussions started by this person. It seems it was just an attempt to make enough post so that access to our Offers/Wanted would be granted automatically... The OP was previously banned from other sites after offering fake iPhones for sale.

I banned the account but let the discussions since it seems some people got passionate about it.

If we locked every thread like this, no-one would have a chance to complain about their internet provider, when it's really easy to change to someone else...

I haven't ever subscribed to Sky Television. I have experienced their product at my parents' home via their satellite service and at a friend's apartment via TelstraClear.

Both experiences left me unimpressed with the service and when I discovered how expensive it was to subscribe I laughed. There is no way I will ever give them a dime.

To become even a little attractive to me they would need to provide a base price rental for the decoder and optional HD ticket, say $5 - $10, and offer each channel individually to me.

I would also want them to boost bitrate on several of their channels as well.

do it .. do it... do it .....  Wink

btw I love mySky HDI wouldn't be without it , technology costs as so does the programming unfortunately and I think you will be surprised how much the studios have control over the content and it is sold to companies like Sky etc .. I don'ty have an issue paying for this as sure as heck my taxes are better off doing something else (roads, health education and police).... Freeview is great with it's HD content for regular programs but I prefer my content more up to date and the only way to do that is via Sky so I'm happy to pay.

nope , but I don't want increased taxes to pay for TV content... it's more valuable elsewhere, unfortunatly not every body is going to be able to watch premium content unless you pay for it.... thats just the way it is and I don't have an issue with it, but I don't believe taxes should cover this.

its only so expensive because they are a monopoly ...besides its not that expensive anyway.. i get basic,hd,hdi and sports for $57 if you take the time to research they have excellent deals running all the time. There are quite a few re runs but that doesnt affect me as i choose my programs online and set them to automatically record series..havent watched a program live on sky in several months.

lol, OP is a douche (and can't even spell "off")...

Anywyay, it's either Sky or Freeview + torrents + limited live streaming sports feeds to get (most) of the same content which is a hassle and often illegal and still costs you $$$

You can watch quit a bit of live sport online but this will chew your bandwidth and not look as good as sky anyway. I've used it at places with no sky before to watch live rugby and cricket though but it only has major games.

At the end of the day, you either have to suck it up or break the law & create hassles for yourself or go without...

I dont have SKY but I would only want to watch it for sports. I watch everything online (Rugby/Rugby League/Black Caps). Sure it chews through the bandwith but I dont really do anything else with it and I always have some spare at the end of the month.

If Sky charged something like $20-$30 just for sports I would get that, but right now its not worth it when I can watch everything online perfectly fine :)
