Check in your modem if it is using assigned DNS servers or if it is hard coded to some IP.
Where this is set differs from modem to modem.

OK, I appear to have diagnosed the problem. SKY are not allowing anyone outside of NZ to resolve the servers IPs (which I believe are constant). This is a very poor way to stop users from using the service as it is easily bypassed and causes more troubles than it solves. Notice how only the Auckland, NZ server can resolve the DNS of "cdn.isky.co.nz".

I too have the issue of the "the selected item is currently not available" message popping up. My ISP is Vodafone. Any clues as to how to fix it? I am unaware of how to change my DNS?

It is set in your modem, depends on the modem you have as to the actually setting.
However in general you just need to set it to use provided DNS and you will be using the ISP servers.

I have seen a number of reports now with vodafone, and we did investigate this a little while ago.

If anyone on vodafone is having this issue at the time could you please record the following:

windows users: Start -> Run -> cmd, or Start and type cmd in the field at the bottom of the popup menu...
type: nslookup
type: server 203.109.129.67
type: prod.vod.isky.co.nz

copy the answer

type: server 203.109.129.68
type: prod.vod.isky.co.nz

copy the answer

For unix/mac/linux users please just open a terminal and

type: dig @203.109.129.67 prod.vod.isky.co.nz
type: dig @203.109.129.68 prod.vod.isky.co.nz

Record the answers

Post them back here or PM them to me.

If you wish then including your IP address will also be useful, i would not post this in the forum.

When it is failing what we have seen is one or other of the DNS servers is responding with a failure more evidence is needed.

Regards

Paul

Hi I'm using Compass Wireless and it was working fine until this morning. Just using their standard DNS. Output from your request below:

These are the DNS that I am getting allocated via Compassnet now and I think this has just changed:

203.152.110.137
203.152.110.138

Its not working with these. Maybe they have a problem with Live TV at the moment. I can watch "Cath Up" iSky no problem.

I had this issue when using Google DNS and had to change back to my ISP's DNS for it to work again.

Annoying.

Got this response from Sky:

"We had some issues with iSKY over the weekend, some customers are still experiencing issues. This is been currently investigated."
