I get that.  I too was very happy initially and used it daily.  But then a friend from Australia visited and showed me Kayo Sport and the quality was noticeably better (and cheaper).  I've since met a few Kiwis who pay for Kayo here and watch with a VPN for less money than SSN, and that really didn't sit right with me.  But when Sky Go upgraded their quality and added Chromecast support, that really pissed me off because we now know that Sky has the 50fps sources available.  I really do hope this is just a technical bug / oversight and not a tactic to lure more people to subscribe to the full-blown service.

Let us know if you get anything of substance back from Sky.

Your vid is proof they aren't the same.

Any chance of a comparison on a broadcast where they are using their own source material? (Local sport)

I was thinking of doing one with the ASB tennis that's currently on in Auckland since tennis seems to really exacerbate the problem.  Is that a Sky Sport broadcast?

I'd assume so. Or maybe shared with TVNZ? I'm not following it but the ball flight would be interesting to see compared

I’m on Apple TV with the sky sport now, and saw a fair bit of juddering on the cricket.

But given it cost me $39 for 4 months access. I’m not complaining too much . Haven’t had sky (apart from Bathurst this year) for over 15 years.

Can’t get over the number of repeats though. Especially on the motorsport channel.

I have been in touch with the product manager for SSN who says they are "looking into it"

Nice!  That sounds promising.

In other news, I've done another short comparison with the tennis.

I contacted SSN support a few weeks ago regarding the frame rate/judder vs skygo/kayo and got the following back

"Greetings,

Thank you for your feedback. We do not currently have any plans on this. We will forward this to the appropriate department for future considerations.

Best regards"

I don't understand how this judder issue got past QA, its had it since it was fanpass.

That's another good comparison, the ball is almost unwatchable on the left

I've had some comms with the product manager Alex again this morning. Suffice to say he is keen to see this resolved, and it's not a situation of "nothing can be done" or "we are making this deliberately worse". I'll let you know if I hear anything useful.

Anyone know how the Apple tv navigation works?

I left the cricket for a bit, and when I came back it was the woman’s match....until I exited the stream and restarted.

Then I wanted to try and go back a bit in time..it didn’t...but then it dropped all the way back to the start of the opposition innings. The only way to get it back to live is exit the stream and restart it.

I really can’t figure it out.

Ok. Weirdly. Pause with the touch pad and restart it it goes back to the start of the stream. Pause with then pause with either play/pause or the touch pad and hold the forward (right of the touch pad) and restart with play/pause to get it back to live. Or something like that.

But no on between.

Yeah the Apple TV app is pretty crap tbh. It is only really ok for showing live streams. If you want to go back in time you will have to AirPlay from the iOS app.

Has anyone else noticed the Android app is sometimes unresponsive on startup?  I will go open the app, it will think for a second or two, and then not open.  I have to force stop the app for it to initialize correctly after this. I'm not sure if this is just my phone, or a more wide spread app issue.
