Note that the monthly pass is recurring, and will automatically keep renewing (and charging your CC), unlike the day/week ones which just stop.

Just looking at the Sky TV guide online. They list 11 channels (excluding rugby channel) which on satellite the sport packages which costs $28.29 per month.

I can understand streaming being a little bit more expensive (having to pay for bandwidth/data) but missing nearly 2/3 of the sports channels for twice the price....

It was great with Chromecast watching the Aussie test yesterday. Only had a few issues during the which resolved themselves in less than 10 seconds. Benefit of not using the PC sound as well so that was free'd up for others to watch youtube etc with out drowning out the commentary..

Yep, its like anything you buy in bulk, its cheaper.

So really, non-sports subscribers should be getting upset at sports fans for keeping their content artificially high :-)

So really, non-sports subscribers should be getting upset at sports fans for keeping their content artificially high :-)

No. If subscribers pay for Basic, sport is the standard price. If non subscriber wants sport you pay more. Put it down to Sport + non subscriber premium. Its pay as you go and not a monthly sub. Like most things if you buy one its more costly per unit than buying bulk. Basic and Sport is about $70 every month, or you just pay $56 for some months. Sky gets funds, you get a saving, win-win

Are you saying Sky don't see the potential in Fan Pass being a subscription model (but then they offer a recurring payment)?. I was comparing a potential Fan Pass customer to an existing non-sport Sky subscriber regardless of how delivered. For what it's worth, I'm neither - but more likely to jump on Fan Pass than Sky Basic + Sport.

Why is the price different because one person doesn't have Sky at all? Is it because Basic across all subscribers subsidises the sport or because it is more expensive to deliver on demand content to a smaller cliental or a bit of both?

You can go to "My Account" -> Subscriptions you can cancel the subscription.

I'm not brave enough to click it now, but should be ok to click it the day before it's due to expire.

Like any business, Sky wishes to maximise revenue. If Sport via Fanpass was the same as sport for a subscriber, then some will jump ship. If Fanpass had a movie option, some will jump ship and still watch movies, and save money. Race to the bottom. The casual sport watchers can save by paying $56 for a few months a year, or for some may as well have Basic and Sport.

As I see it, some will exit Sky, = zero revenue. Fan pass accepts churn, but seeks to grab some smaller revenue rather than just none. The day pass is very expensive, but cheap if used occasionally for an event. Week pass is the same. Month pass is the same. Maximise revenue but don't make it cheap as chips which will encourage others to jump.

In short it gives Sky good revenue and gives many a low cost option if sport is the main reason for having Sky.
